David Benson Sings Noel Coward @ Kostel Sv. Jana Křtitele na Prádle There is only one problem with this terrific evening with the supremely talented and charming David Benson and Noel Coward – the venue. While lovely and atmospheric (and no doubt Coward himself would love the idea of his words being sung in a House of God), Kostel Sv. Jana Křtitele na Prádle is acoustically a nightmare for music that depends on crisp consonants and luxurious vowels. However Benson and his excellent pianist Stewart Nicholls, overcome this limitation with a sharp attention to articulation and an easy-going natural panache that is perfectly suited to that breezy Coward style. Highlights of the musical adventure include anytime Benson lets lose with his full-throated open sound and in particular songs “Mrs. Worthington”, “Mad About the Boy”, and “If Love Were All” as well as a special section featuring Benson’s tribute to Coward’s patriotism commissioned by the BBC. A rewarding experience courtesy a gifted performer reminding us the of world-class talent that is Noel Coward. Read more Fringe reviews...
