Every year multi story set themselves the challenge of creating a new play that explores the world as they experience it.  An obsession with celebrity, uncertainties about the future and the subjectivity of memory were the starting points for Backward Glance.

A celebrated writer has died.  Her husband provides conflicting versions of the circumstances and can't account for where he disappeared to immediately after her death.  A journalist smells a scandal; an investigator is determined to prove foul play.  A mourning mother looks for somewhere to lay the blame. Meanwhile the husband is on a mission in quite another dimension.

Differing visions of past, present and future fuel a conflict with deadly consequences...

Woven from words, images and a powerfully physical performance-style, Backward Glance joins the repertoire of a company with impeccable Fringe credentials.  For five years Gill Nathanson and Bill Buffery of multi story were mainstays of the North American Fringe circuit. They made their Prague debut last year with their widely admired production of Cassandra. They have also established their own Fringe TheatreFest in Barnstaple, UK.  Throughout the year their work keeps them on a constant tour of the UK along with recent trips to South America, Canada, Norway and Portugal.

Why so addicted to Fringe?  Because this is a forum in which theatre-makers and audiences alike celebrate small-scale work that bursts with ambition.  And the creative energy unleashed is hugely nourishing.  And what better place to enjoy some of this energy than in Prague – an international meeting place, a supremely well-organized Festival, atmospheric venues and beautiful surroundings steeped in history.

Backward Glance plays at the Divadlo Inspirace from Friday May 22nd to Saturday May 30th.

“The performances of Gill Nathanson and Bill Buffery are theatre art at its very best.”  Robert Enright, CBC
