Recently I arranged some invitations for our colleagues from Serbia to come visit the Czech Republic. I spent the entire day at the Foreigners' Police Department (Oddělení cizinecké policie Praha) at Koněvova 188/32, Prague 3-Žižkov, taking care of this matter. Below is some information on what you need in order to apply for an invitation. GENERAL INFORMATION The invitation, verified by the Foreigners' Police Department, is a document declaring your commitment to cover the costs connected with: • Food for the duration of the visitor's stay in the Czech Republic • Accommodation for the time of the visitor's stay until departure • Health care for the duration of the visitor's stay, including their possible transportation in the event of sickness or death • The visitor's possible detention in, and deportation from the Czech Republic The application form to visit the Czech Republic can be obtained from any Foreigners' Police Department. The submitted form must be an original copy; it can't be downloaded from the internet. The Foreigners' Police Department certifies the invitation within seven days of submitting the application. The administrative fee for certification of the document is 200 CZK. A government stamp (kolek) is required for each person invited. For people of 15 or older, only one application can be made per form. It is, however, possible to apply for more than one person per form if they're younger than 15. In such cases, the verification fee remains the same. Under Czech law, an invitation can be on behalf of either a physical entity (an individual) or a legal entity (a company or similar organization). PHYSICAL ENTITY (INDIVIDUAL) INVITATIONS When submitting the application, a physical entity (individual) must also submit an identification document -- an občanský průkaz ("civic certificate") in the case of a Czech citizen, a passport or similar travel document in the case of a non-Czech. For a non-Czech, the passport/travel document must contain a visa permitting a stay of 90 days or more, or a permanent residency permit. The invitee also needs to: • Present documents proving that the invitee has travel health insurance • Declare that he/she will secure such insurance before entering the territory • Prove that he/she posseses at least 30,000 euros to cover any of the costs mentioned above LEGAL ENTITY (COMPANY) INVITATIONS On the application form, legal entity invitees must provide their company name, address, identification number and, if possible, stamp the form with their company's official stamp. The form should also include the first name(s), family name, and signature of the person entitled to act on the legal entity's behalf. The company must also submit a bank statement, no more than six months old, proving that they have the funds needed to cover the potential cost of the visitor's stay in the Czech Republic. In order to invite a foreign national to the Czech Republic, a cooperative (družstvo) must be registered with the Obchodní rejstřík (Business Register). The person entitled to act on the legal entity's behalf must also submit, along with the application, an identification document. As with physical entity invitations, this should be an identification card in the case of a Czech citizen, or, in the case of a foreigner, a passport or similar travel document containing a Czech visa for a stay of 90 days or more, or a permanent residency permit. The legal entity named in the application can be changed, providing that the entity originally named authorizes the change and the new entity, whether company or individual, provides the relevant documents mentioned above. What you need for your trip to the Foreigners' Police Department • A statement from the Business Register. This can't be more than 180 days old but it doesn't need to be notarized • ID card • Company stamp • Application form -- available from the Foreigners' Police Department • Government stamps (kolky) -- available from the Foreigner's Police Department or any post office • Declaration of payment of the invitee's health insurance, available from the Foreigners' Police Department And if you're arranging a letter of invitation on somebody else's behalf: • Power of attorney (plná moc) -- this also doesn't need to be notarized FOREIGNERS' POLICE DEPARTMENT CONTACT DETAILS Detailed information about residency for foreigners in the Czech Republic can be obtained from the various regional offices of the Foreigners' Police Department.
