Just round the corner from the main post office, this Pilsner pub is ideal for a lunchtime beer

Restaurace Bredovský Dvůr is a great place to duck into for a beer and daily lunch specials (hotovky) while shopping in the center. It is, however, a bit dangerous.

Sporting an absolutely delicious tank Pilsner, good solid Czech food, of which the Koleno (roasted pork knee) is excellent, and a lively (and well-ventilated) atmosphere, it's easy to lose a few hours here.

CONCLUSION
Situated just around the corner from the main post office, Restaurace Bredovský Dvůr is a perfect downtown spot that won't break the bank. It can be crowded, though, so reservations are recommended for larger parties.

Beer Temperature: 9 out of 10
Just about perfect. On one visit it was slightly off but on all subsequent visits -- and there have been many -- it was right on.

Atmosphere: 8/10
Lively, clean, with interesting interior design. A popular place for workers from the neighborhood. The clientele is mostly Czech with a smattering of tourists.

Food: 6/10
Solid classics, a game section with daily offers, and a nice rotisserie in the back. Vegetarians can find a few good things on the menu, and the pastas are passable. A little too much reliance on Podravka (MSG) in soups and sauces makes some of the food a little blah, and some of the dishes seem a bit too ambitious for the kitchen. If you stick with roasted meat you'll be happy.

Culture & Friendliness: 9/10
Pleasant, friendly staff. English and German spoken.

Service: 9/10
Quick and efficient. As with most classic Pilsner places you don't ask for beer, you refuse it.

Bathrooms: 8/10
Definitely a rarity for a pub. Clean men's bathrooms with toilet paper. And locking doors! The ladies in our party also commented on the cleanliness.

Cleanliness of Taps: 9.5 out of 10
Polished and well-kept, just about as good as it gets.

OVERALL: 8.5 out of 10

"What a shame. The tank beer is delicious, the classic Czech fare -- meat, meat, meat -- is delectable, the decor unique and the terrace a pleasure. But the wait staff would rather have root canal than serve non Czechs. Been here twice in the past 12 months, and what would be a reasonably priced bill was, on both occasions, larded up with more than 20% hidden "extra" (tourist) charges -- bread, service charge -- we are not as stupid as you think..."
