I am preparing for Code:Mode, Prague's answer to a free, inclusive fashion weekend, where designers throughout the Czech Republic can come and show their wares and meet their customers in an intimate, unpretentious setting. I've been to a few Code:Modes since moving here in 2008 and I must admit that I am more excited about this one than any other one in the past.

This is not, to some people's disappointment, your standard Bryant Park fare, nor should it be. Most of the designers are new, are experimenting with different design elements (not all of them hits, by the way), and are trying to find their niche. If you are expecting something swanky and uppity, please be forewarned that you could leave disappointed. This is, however, a place to see the new crop of fresh faces that will explode onto the Czech fashion scene

This season's Code:Mode kicks off on Friday, April 15 at 3pm and runs until 5pm on Sunday, April 17. One hundred and fifty-five distinguished designers in the areas of accessories, jewelry, clothing and home, will show over the three-day period at Karlín Hall (Thámova 14, Prague 8; Metro: Křižíková (line B)), situated in the post-industrial district of the same name. The 4000-square-meter hall provides some much-needed additional space which will help to alleviate some of the congestion that the event suffered from in previous years. The other benefit of having a larger space: a bigger bar and café area, a rest zone, a wifi center and a children's play corner.

Fashion shows will commence on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm. Shows that we at Prague TV are excited to see: Daya -- a relative newcomer to the fashion design scene will show her clothing line on Friday evening, which insiders have told me will be a spectacular spring line! And Jane Bond shows her whimsical Alice in Wonderland headbands on Saturday evening, along with La Femme Mimi and Valevská. See the official Code:Mode website for the full program.
