Most Czechs still do a large part of their shopping at the nearest potraviny (grocery store) -- this is Europe after all -- and many also go to a separate bakery, butcher, sweetshop, and drinks shop. A potraviny's prices are sometimes higher, sometimes lower than your average supermarket or hypermarket, and the selections vary widely from store to store. There's a potraviny on almost every block in Prague, though, so see what's around. Nápoje (Drinks Shop) These specialist drinks shops sells everything from juice and water to beer, wine and liquor, and, because cigarettes and alcohol go hand in hand, they usually sell those too. They're also a good place to return your empty beer bottles. Večerka/Nonstop (Convenience Stores) A potraviny that opens later is called a večerka, and a 24-hour store -- there are a few! -- is called a nonstop. While ideal for last-minute purchases, convenience stores that stay open later are typically more expensive than a regular potraviny. Unless you live next door to a hypermarket, however, a večerka or nonstop is usually your only option for late-night shopping.
