Like any small city, Karlovy Vary has a multitude of hotels, pensions and private apartments to choose from. Rates run the gammut ranging from extremely cheap (13 USD / 10 Euro) to excessively expensive (1300 USD / 1000 Euro). Which ever end of the spectrum you prefer, one thing is universal, book your rooms early! During the film festival, Karlovy Vary swells from a modest 60,000 to over 150,000 people. What this means for the average film fan is a headache trying to find somewhere to stay. If you haven't booked by May, chances are you will end up paying considerably more than you had anticipated, or staying far away from the action. The film festival headquarters is located in the lobby of the Hotel Thermal, this is where one can pick up info about films, purchase tickets and is also where they have the opening ceremony. If you want to see the stars, then the entrance of the Thermal on opening night is the place to be.
