Evacuations in Zbraslav
by Sam BeckwithThe Prague authorities have begun evacuating some residents from Závist street in Zbraslav, in the far southwest of the city and, if necessary, are prepared to move people from homes in Lipence, Radotín, Velká Chuchle, Troja and Sedlec.
There are also a handful of road closures in connection with the flood alert:
• Nábřežní, Prague 5
• Roztocká, Prague 6
• Za elektrárnou (in the direction of Císařský ostrov), Prague 7
• Varhulíkova (the underpass below the Most Barikádníků bridge), Prague 7
• The underpass under Strakonická street in Prague 16
In Libeň, meanwhile, Prague 8 district council has closed Libeňský ostrov, a riverside area that contains mainly allotments and a children’s kayaking club.
In general, however, there doesn’t seem to be too much cause for concern.
The city council is reporting that pretty much all Prague’s flood defenses are in place, and this morning’s meeting of the flood committee has ruled out a complete evacuation of the lower half of the Prague zoo. Instead, only animals from those areas of the zoo particularly at risk are likely to be moved.
