John Mayall returning to Archa
Octogenarian blues guitarist is still touring and recording
Blues legend John Mayall will be coming to divadlo Archa on March 2, 2017. The 82-year-old guitarist will be on an extensive European tour called Livin' & Lovin' the Blues.
In May 2016, Mayall was finally inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. “John Mayall joins many of his idols, as well as a famous former band member, with his induction into the Blues Hall of Fame. Eric Clapton, guitarist with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers in the 1960s, was inducted in 2014, while the bluesmen who inspired Mayall, including Sonny Boy Williamson, J.B. Lenoir, Otis Rush and Freddie King, were among the first inductees,” the Blues Foundation said in a press release.
It was not the first honor for Mayall, He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005, even though he has mostly lived in the US since the end of the 1960s.
Mayall was born in 1933 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, to a musical family. He formed his first band in 1962 and founded the Bluesbreakers in London in 1963, making him active on musical stages for more than half a century.
Aside from helping to launch the career of Eric Capton, Mayall's band also gave a start to Peter Green, Jack Bruce, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Mick Taylor and Aynsley Dunbar, among many others. He has also collaborated live with many blues notables including Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Albert Collins.
To date, Mayall has over 60 records and CDs to his name, not counting repackagings and compilations. Several of his albums have been hits in the Billboard pop charts including including The Turning Point, Bare Wires, Empty Rooms, U.S.A. Union, and Back to the Roots.
The most recent, released in 2016 is an archival recording called John Mayall's Bluesbreakers Live In 1967 Vol 2. He still puts out new works as well and released Find A Way To Care in 2015.
