Music Festivals of Various Genres in 2016

Mark your calendars and don’t miss out on these diverse music festivals

The multicultural city of Prague is a great place to enjoy music of different genres performed by musicians from all over the world. There is a festival for everyone, whether you prefer jazz, hip hop or metal. Some festivals combine food, open-air and music – could that be the recipe for the perfect day?

Prague Spring International Music Festival
: One of the oldest and best known music festivals in the Czech Republic bringing together tradition and experimental music. From May 12th June 4th, the festival will take place in 17 concert halls offering 50 classical music concerts featuring 98 musicians from 23 countries.

Majáles: The 12th Prague Majáles will take place on April 29th in Letňany to celebrate spring and the life of students. It also takes place is Brno and Hradec Králové and is celebrated during all of April with a culminating day of celebration featuring a parade and an open-air festival. Experience a unique atmosphere and the performances of some of the best Czech and Slovak bands.

Magnetic: On May 6th you can experience the popular bi-annual festival that started in 2013. Located at the PVA Expo in Prague, the largest indoor EDM festival in Central Europe will feature The Chainsmokers, Dannic, Dyro, John Culter, Matisse & Sadko and more. Find out more about the festival at

Navalis: Also known as the Saint John’s celebrations will take place on May 16th following a three-hundred year tradition. This Baroque celebration will take place on the river by Charles Bridge – the concert will begin at 9 PM but there is a full day of events. Pilgrims, including Venetian gondoliers, come to Prague every year for this celebration.

Metronome Festival
: The metronome is an important symbol reminding Czechs of the long struggle against Communism. On June 25th and 26th, you can enjoy the Metronome Festival at Výstaviště, a much larger venue than the popular spot under the metronome. The lineup includes Iggy Pop, Foals, The Kooks and many more.

Bohemia Jazz Festival: One of the largest summer music festivals in Europe, Bohemia JazzFest will take place in July (11th – 19th). The festival brings the world’s greatest performers to various cities in the Czech Republic, and thanks to the sponsors the event is free for all music lovers.

Prague Folklore Festival: The 10th International Meeting of Folklore Ensembles will take place on July 28th – July 31st. Enjoy the biggest folk dance and music event in Central Europe where you can experience signing groups, dancing groups and marching groups. The program involves two open air performances in the city center and a parade of all of the ensembles through Prague.

Swing Me Prague: Held on August 13th at Velká Chuchle you can experience Prague’s first electro-swing festival. Featuring Robot Face, the festival will be packed with Czech electro-swing bands, horse races and other activities at the famous racecourse.

Colours of Ostrava: From July 14th – 17th, you can experience the famous Colours of Ostrava festival in Dolni Vitkovice. Featuring bands from different genres including dance, jazz, rock, pop, electronic, world music and much more, the festival will attract bands and visitors from all over the world. Rock for People
: Lovers of rock & roll should mark July 3rd to 5th on their calendars. Hradec Králové will be hosting the annual festival featuring Massive Attack, The Offspring, Bullet for my Valentine, Five Finger Death Punch and many more.

Hip Hop Camp
: You don’t have to be sad about summer ending because on August 18th – 20th you can say farewell to summer with a bang. Experience 8 stages and 96 hours of live hip hop in Hradec Králové at the Festival Park.

Made of Metal
: The event of the year for all metal heads: Made of Metal (MoM) will take place on the 14th through 16th of August. Boasting a great line-up and three days of exciting live performances, find out more at

Refu Fest: Not a classical music festival, but a great way to get together and listen to international music. Taking place on Saturday, May 28th with the location to be decided, the 11th annual event will bring together people from around the world to celebrate diversity. Organized by Refu Fest and InBaze, great music and food will not be missed.

Multicultural Open Air Festival: Also known as the Kaleidoscope party, the festival will take place on June 11th at Central Park Pankrác. Similarly to Refu Fest, it will celebrate cultural diversity.
