Bryan Adams to play O2 Arena Prague
Canadian musician is also a fashion photographer and human rights activist
Canadian singer and guitarist Bryan Adams will be Prague's O2 Arena on Oct. 5 with his Get Up tour. It is part of a relatively short leg of his world tour, with eight dates starting in Luxembourg and ending in Sofia, Bulgaria. He will return in 2017 for six dates in Germany and Scandinavia.
The tour is to support Get Up, his 13th studio album, which was released to generally positive reviews in October 2015. The album spawned four singles so far, including “Brand New Day” and “You Belong to Me.” The videos for the singles were directed by Adams. The album was produced by Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra.
So far in the tour, Adams has been playing about 30 songs per show, starting with new material but including most of his hits including “Summer of '69” and “Heaven” from the 1984 album Reckless. Despite being more than 30 years old, Reckless has been supplying six of the show's songs. This is even more that Get Up, which has four tunes in most shows. His hit albums Cuts Like a Knife and 18 Til I Die are also well represented with about three songs each. Partway through the main set there has been an acoustic solo section with two songs.
UK newspaper The Telegraph gave a show in the UK leg of the tour four start our of five. “Steeped unashamedly in the realms of dad rock, the 56-year-old Adams performed a selection of the biggest hits from his 13-album catalogue with remarkable energy, repeatedly high tailing it from one end of the stage to the other during several guitar solos,” Charlotte Runcie said in her review.
Adams has sold more than 100 million records and singles in his career. His 1991 song “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” spent sixteen consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart, witch is a record for the longest run in British chart history. Adams won Grammy for the song, which was in a the soundtrack to the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and also earned an Oscar nomination.
He began his career as a teenager in Vancouver, Canada, and started his musical partnership with songwriter and musician Jim Vallance when he was 18. He shot to fame with his third album, Cuts Like a Knife in 1983 and solidified it in 1984 with Reckless.
Aside from music, Adams has been active in animal rights and has been a vegan since 1989. He has also supported the issue of hearing loss and voiced his opposition to war.
He is also a photographer and has shot advertising campaigns for several fashion brands and worked for some top magazines. He has also shot portraits of many of his fellow musicians.
A photograph he shot of Queen Elizabeth II was used on a postage stamp in Canada, and another one of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip is in the National Portrait Gallery in London. In 2013, Adams put out a photo book called Wounded – The Legacy of War, to show the real human consequences of war, and has had exhibitions of some of the photos.
