Rod Stewart coming to O2 Arena Prague
British singer was recently knighted for his service to music
Veteran rocker Rod Stewart is coming to Prague's O2 Arena on Nov. 7 with a new tour called From Gasoline Alley To Another Country: Hits 2016.
The show will actually be the second of that tour, which starts a few days earlier in Stuttgart and end in Glasgow in December.
“I give you fair warning – fasten your seat belts. I’m pulling out all the stops!” he said in the news release about the upcoming tour.
The veteran singer also has other news. He is now Sir Roderick, having been knighted June 10 in the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to music and charity. “I’ve led a wonderful life and have had a tremendous career thanks to the generous support of the great British public. This monumental honor has topped it off and I couldn’t ask for anything more. I thank Her Majesty and promise to ‘wear it well,’” he said when he heard the news, referring to one of his early hits. Since 2007 he has also been a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
Gasoline Alley was Stewart’s second album, released in 1970, His first, An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down from 1969, didn’t chart well. His 28th album, Another Country, came out in 2015 and reached number 2 in the UK and Scottish charts. So, from the title of the tour it seems he will be covering 45 years of his solo career.
According to a news release, songs in the show will include “You Wear It Well,” “Maggie May,” “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy,” “Baby Jane,” “The First Cut is the Deepest,” “I Don’t Want To Talk About It,” “Tonight’s The Night,” “The Killing of Georgie” and “Sailing” plus hits from his most recent platinum-selling albums Time and Another Country.
“Sailing” is his biggest hit in the UK, but did poorly in the US, reaching only number 60 in the charts. He had a number one hit in both the US and UK with “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy,” and donated his royalties from that song to UNICEF.
By his own account, he has sold 200 million albums worldwide. He has been inducted into the US-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a solo artist and the second time as a member of the Faces, a band he was with from 1969 to 1975. He was also with the Jeff Beck Group for a short time in the late 1960s. The band broke up just before the Woodstock Festival, and much to everyone’s regret they missed that show.
