Foodparade coming to Troja
Contactless payment cards are among the new developments for this year
The sixth annual Foodparade, which will be held in the gardens of Troja Chateau, takes place Sept 3–4. The festival brings together local restaurants, which will present special selections from their menus. Gourmet delicacies and beverages will also be available.
The atmosphere of the festival is relaxed, with a picnic area and a children's play area. People are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or borrow them on site. Pets are newly welcome this year.
Each day will have a side program in the stable of the chateau. Topics include cooking in the time of Charles IV, how to decorate a cake and the best way to make coffee at home. Some chefs will also give cooking lessons. Shows will be led by chefs from the restaurants U Emy Destinnové, Burger Bar and Etnosvět. In addition, Jana Vašáková, editor in chief of the magazine FOOD and Jiří Hilgart from MasterChef will have shows. Cake decorating will be taught by Saint Tropez and coffee technique by Dos Mundos.
Award winning sommelier Tomáš Brůha will present Spanish wine. For the adventurous, there will be lessons on how to cook insects. There will also be mini-workshops on topics like making pastries and cooking for seniors.
Winners of a cooking competition called I Love Food will be announced, and prizes from the sponsors are worth a total of Kč 50,000. It is too late to enter for this year, as the first round closed on July 15, the deadline for sending in recipes involving chili. At the festival, the remaining contestants will have to cook a meal using ingredients from a mystery box and then in the final round face off in pairs in three disciplines including a quiz and a blindfolded competition.
Around two dozen restaurants and food vendors will have stands. The offering will be fairly wide, with top gourmet restaurants like U Emy Destinnové and U Modré Kachničky alongside vegetarian places like Etnosvět, and meat and burger places like Steakgrill from Roudnice nad Labem, Burger meets Diplomat and Le Burger.
Mirellie and Attifood will present Mediterannean food. Asia Point, MIBI's International Cuisine and Sushi Time will each offer a variety of Asian cuisines. Brouk na talíři, meaning beetles on a plate, will showcase meals made with insects. Experts say insects have high protein and also a lower impact on the environment compared to meat.
The childen's area, organized by Ententýky.cz, also welcomes English- and German- speaking children. There will be supervision all day and activities such as games and crafts, and some simple food preparation lessons.
Payment for meals has been made easy with contactless cards that can be recharged or topped up easily. The official currency of the festival is the “chef,” which is worth Kč 20.
