Mon Ami (II)
Family-owned Balkan restaurant opens second location in Vršovice
Built on a long incline, the two halves of the fast-growing Vršovice district are known as "Lower V" and "Upper V" to the ever-expanding expat community that dwells there.
Vršovice is an upcoming area with oodles of nice streets and pretty parks, which, because of its proximity to the center - just a handful of tram stops away - is an ideal place to live.
As well as various wineries, cafes and bars, there are some fine eateries here - and that list just got longer with the surprising opening of Mon Ami 2.
The family-run Balkan pizzeria, one of Žižkov's best-kept secrets, has moved uptown, expanding from "Lower Z" (lower Žižkov) into "Upper V," opening its second location on hip Kodaňská street.
The new place offers an incredible contrast to the modest original, with a balcony, brass fittings and even a rock garden. The new Mon Ami is a classy joint, but the beauty of the new location is that they've kept the old menu and, better still, the old prices.
Cevapcici (Balkan sausages), pleskavice (beef patties), ustipce (fritters) and that incredible cheese sauce all still cost less than 100 Kč.
Mon Ami also offers pizzas, pastas, mixed grills and special lamb dishes, all accompanied by a decent wine selection. Live Balkan music and the occasional taste of homemade rakia makes for an enjoyable evening on the edge of Vinohrady.
If you aren't familiar with Balkan cuisine there's now one less excuse for your ignorance.
