Spaghetti Bolognese: The Top 5 Spaghetti Venues In Prague
Spaghetti Bolognese the Italian classic dish
Spaghetti Bolognese is one of the first things you might imagine when you think of Italian cuisine. Here are some of the best places in Prague to get a great Spaghetti Bolognese.
Without being modest, I would consider myself a highly qualified spaghetti Bolognese expert. Many chefs, both Italian and otherwise, have made such claims in the past, but I am not a chef. I do, however, eat spaghetti Bolognese on a daily basis and have become proficient in spotting the good from the bad. I cook my own, obviously using fresh ingredients, and I regularly head to Italian restaurants to try the different styles. So I decided to create a list of my top Spag Bol experiences in Prague.
Spaghetti Bolognese History
The Bolognese sauce might be Italian, coming from Bologna, but placing it on spaghetti certainly wasn’t an Italian idea. Legend has it that British and American soldiers that were passing through Bologna in the Second World War were very much into the sauce on offer in Northern Italy. When they travelled back to their respective homelands after the war, they asked for the sauce in restaurants and it was served with spaghetti. When they came back to Italy with their families, this time as tourists, they asked for their beloved Spaghetti Bolognese and Italian restaurateurs gave it to them. Or so they story goes.
See the history of Spaghetti Bolognese here
There is a lot of history behind the famous dish from Bologna, and it even has a website dedicated to the preservation of the original cooking methods. Apparently, Italian chefs are dismayed that we are bastardizing the recipe and using substitutes instead of the original stuff. Some of the puritans even say that Spaghetti Bolognese shouldn’t exist as the Bolognese is from the north of Italy and the spaghetti is from the south. Apparently we also use too many tomatoes in our recipe.
Nowadays, Spaghetti Bolognese has been exported around the world and on my own travels I’ve found variants as far off as Belize, Falklands Islands, Baltimore, Kenya and Sri Lanka; although the quality was often questionable outside of Europe and US to be fair.
Prague Italian Restaurants
I have found some absolute gems amongst Italian restaurants in Prague. I have eaten some extremely nice meals in many of the Italian restaurants here and enjoyed some really authentic, wholesome dishes. I do often diverge from Spaghetti Bolognese and try seafood dishes and steaks, but sometimes I just can’t resist ordering Spaghetti Bolognese when I see it.
Here is my list of top 5 places in Prague to get a decent Spaghetti Bolognese (Excluding my flat)
5. Papa Giovanni
I originally found this place using a Slevomat voucher which meant it was terrifically cheap. The location, service and food quality were all very good so I decided to return to the restaurant and have the spaghetti Bolognese once again. Good consistency, authentic and herby. A good all-round performer and the location of the restaurant is brilliant.

4. Pizza Coloseum Palác Myslbek
I always hesitate before putting chains in these types of lists, but this particular restaurant is really very good. They have Stella Artois, bread and oil, and they do a really good meal for a reasonable price. The Spaghetti Bolognese her in particularly is definitely worth a mention, and the restaurant is located next to a theatre so you can always take your partner on a meal and theatre date; just a suggestion as Valentine’s Day is fast approaching..

3. Pizzeria Ristorante Corleone Anděl
Corleone’s gets a mention in this list as I lived just around the corner, in Anděl, for quite some time and this became my go-to Bolognese place. The pizzas are also pretty top notch here, but the Spaghetti Bolognese is really good. The waiters are nice, the location is good and the price isn’t too damaging. I would definitely recommend this place for Valentine’s Day if you haven’t already got plans.

2. Pizzeria & Ristorante Di Carlo – Šeberov
This place is brilliant, especially in the summer. It’s a little out of the way, so you might need a designated driver if you intend on having a beer or some wine with your meal, but you certainly won’t be disappointed with the quality. I’ve been here a few times, and even took my family here when they visited. The spaghetti on offer is Al Dente, well prepared and the sauce is rich and vibrant. Di Carlo’s is a very nice meal all round and good value, even if it takes a little longer to get to than the others.

1. Marina Ristorante (Formerly Marina Grosseto)
This place has a superb location and is a superb setting for all your Spaghetti Bolognese needs. The restaurant is a solid boat that has been refurbished and refitted, so you won’t be sliding all over the place or feel sea sick at all. It’s all very glamorous, either above deck in the summer or below in the winter and it’s always extremely popular, so book in advance. You can have a romantic meal for 2, a business lunch or a family feast; suitable for all occasions. The service is top notch and the staff are always attentive to your culinary needs. The spaghetti on offer is brilliant, and the beer always accompanies it very well. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.
