Food Truck Show coming to Smíchovská Náplavka
The season of almost weekly food festivals in getting under way
Food Truck Show Náplavka will bring over 40 international and domestic vendors to Prague's waterfront at Smíchovská Náplavka on March 18 from 10 am to 7 pm. Note that this is opposite side of the river from the popular farmers market.
The Food Truck Show is the third-largest of its type in Europe and vehicles include trailers, vans, rickshaws, bicycles and tricycles as well as grills and a field kitchen.
The trucks and vendors are coming from across Europe with burgers, sausages, Thai and other ethnic food, fresh pasta and fries.
“Visitors can look forward to specialties that are usually related to the country of origin of the food trucks. The other thing that will surprise you is very creative and artistic manners of the food presentation. There will be food trucks from Germany, Belgium, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland at the festival — countries that occupy the leading positions in the food truck community.
A Slovak representative will be Jagger Food Truck, which will be offering and a taste of that country. They have been in Prague before with burgers, pulled pork, ethnic food on a bun and other treats.
All the way from Belgium, the Urban Cook – Food Truck will have fries, waffles and Thai specialties.
Electrolux food truck has a special menu planned by chef Jirka Hilgart. Other local vendors include Kobe Sausages, which has a small shop in Prague, and Vehykl food truck.
The idea of food trucks isn't new, though they have been having a bit of a renaissance with renewed interest in retro anything.
According to festival organizers, one of the first food trucks was in 1872 when Walter Scott cut his truck windows out and parked in front of a newspaper office in Providence, Rhode Island, to sell sandwiches, cakes and coffee to journalists. This trend grew to be popular for offices and other workplaces that did not have restaurants nearby. In Europe, food tricks are popular in Italy, France and Poland.
