FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. Monday 9 September, 2013—Prague, Czech Republic

Prague Shakespeare Company, in association with Národní Divadlo, is proud to present three months of English-language Shakespeare (and more) at Divadlo Kolowrat, playing 4 October through 12 December, 2013. Led by Artistic Director Guy Roberts, PSC will present four professional “Original English-language Shakespeare” productions – new productions of Henry V and Macbeth, the rarely-performed romance Cymbeline, and the hilarious Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) – plus the return of PSC’s Fringe Festival hit The Duchess of Malfi.  The three Shakespeare plays will feature Czech surtitles by Martin Hilsky.

Henry V by William Shakespeare

Directed by PSC Artistic Director Guy Roberts

After triumphant performances earlier this year in Houston, Texas (USA), PSC’s production of Henry V, performed in English and featuring a cast of professional theatre artists, comes to Prague for a limited run at the Kolowratský palác.

It’s the early fifteenth century, and King Henry V has just assumed the English throne. When the Dauphin sends Henry an insulting message in response to England’s claims to certain parts of France, Henry decides to invade. The war is ultimately decided at the Battle of Agincourt, at which the English are outnumbered by the French five to one. What happens in the end is nothing short of a miracle…

The production was nominated for four Houston Press 2013 Theater Awards – Best Production, Best Director –Guy Roberts (winner), Best Lead Actor – Guy Roberts, and Best Costumes.

Henry V – Quotes from Critics:

“Inventively staged and designed, acted with verve and eloquence by the charismatic Roberts and his uniformly strong cast …The defining quality of the enterprise, from Roberts' pivotal performance to the smallest detail of design, is its prevailing sense of seriousness, of purposeful dedication to a worthy cause....Roberts and his band of brothers apply the torch that sets Henry V ablaze with glory.”

- Everett Evans, Houston Chronicle

“War is hell but Henry V is Great...Roberts captures Harry's paradoxes with gleeful flair. He's virile and blustery, a master diplomat, a simple wooer, and a valiant warrior.…One of Shakespeare's most complex personalities, Harry springs to magnificent life under Roberts's skillful choices.”

- D.L. Groover, Houston Press

“Prague Shakespeare Company’s production of Henry V is a brilliant feat of theatrical craftsmanship and magic.  The dynamic and energetic production is alluring, fascinating, and powerful.”

- David Clarke, broadwayworld.com

Henry V Performance Schedule:

4, 6, 9, 11, 14, 19 October, 2013

All performances are at 19:00.
