Pet Shop Boys „electricized“ Prague
Forum Karlín came alive on Wednesday with the sounds of the 1980s and 1990s
Forum Karlín came alive on Wednesday with the sounds of the 1980s and 1990s during a performance by an iconic British pop band.
The Pet Shop Boys, who were in the city performing as part of the annual LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) celebration Prague Pride, gave an electrifying performance playing some of their best known hits like West End Girls, Go West and It’s a Sin.
The Pet Shop Boys formed in London, England in 1981 and gained popularity and a significant following during the 1980s. They have enjoyed top ten hits in the United Kingdom, Germany and the US, and have enjoyed awards such as the Ivor Novello Award’s Best International Hit for It’s a Sin in 1988 and Q Magazine’s Outstanding Contribution to Music in 2013. The concert on Wednesday mark the Pet Shop Boy’s first return to the city since their last performance in Prague in 2009.
The concert attracted a large crowd of fans with approximately 2000 people in attendance in the newly opened Forum Karlín, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere full of people of all different ages singing and cheering along. The Pet Shop Boys will continue their current tour with performances in Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The Prague Pride festivities, which began on 11 August and end on 17 August, have included events such as book launches, concerts and discussions around important LGBT issues.
On Saturday 16 August the Prague Pride March will take place with thousands of members of the city’s LGBT community and their supporters taking to the streets of central Prague, decked out in the Pride movement’s signature rainbow colours, marching from the top of Wenceslas Square from 1 pm and culminating in Letná Park, where a music festival will take place.
