Smetana Days to Sound the City of Pilsen

Pilsen - European Capital of Culture 2015

The fans of classical music, operetta and jazz will definitely appreciate the programme of the 35th traditional music festival Smetana Days held in Pilsen until 29th  March. Leading Czech and foreign ensembles, including Pilsen Philharmonic and Janáček Chamber Orchestra, will perform at more than 20 concerts. You can choose out of a wide range of great symphonic concerts, chamber performances and composed programmes of various music genres.


The organizers invite you to the Great Theatre for operettas the Polish blood and the Gipsy Princess and to the House of Music for jazz piano etudes performed by a Czech pianist Milaň Franěk. One of the interesting curiosities will definitely be a puppet version of Mozart's Don Giovanni by National Theatre of Marionettes or a concert of sacred music interconnecting Christian and Jewish cultures in the Old Synagogue. The closing concert of the festival will be festive oratorio Stabat Mater by Jakub Jan Ryba performed by the Czech Symphonic Orchestra Brno and Pilsen Philharmonic.
