A Quick Overview of Code:Mode Spring 2011
Heather O'Brien picks some favorite new designers from Prague's recent fashion weekend
This is just a short overview of new designers at this season's Code:Mode. I'll add more later, don't fret!
Accessories were the overall winner at this season's Code:Mode, with jewelry and handbags outshining all the others!
WHO I LOVED: NEW & NOTABLE
Trudi for Dolls Jewels
Hello! One to love! I am obsessed with her designs and her ability to make the most beautifully intricate jewelry. It's the stuff of legend, or at least the stuff you ogle at in Barney's, Liberty of London, or Bergdorf Goodman!
A handbag company that is interested in, gasp, manufacturing great products, versus producing lesser quality goods! The designs are playful and feminine. The fabrics and patterns are kitschy, mixing pleather with sateen and cottons.
Part of a design duo that makes exceptionally beautiful clothing. For their spring 2011 collection they used silk and gave their silhouettes a 1940s and '50s theme.
Blanq uses a combination of fabric, chain, and pearls to make these statement necklaces. Worn with jeans or a simple black dress for a night out, it's versatile and fun.
Need a bit more ambiance in the apartment? MooDoo, which makes paper lamps using a special technique developed by Czech scientists and engineers, will make you think twice about buying another boring Ikea paper lamp. With cool designs like Bethlehem Prague, leaves, and hearts, it's something uniquely original to put in your home.
Original cutting and tailoring with a hint of sci-fi thrown in their for good measure, Zuzana takes your typical cuts and makes them atypical. With Prague Fashion Weekend under her belt last year, she is setting her sights on other bigger named shows like Modepalast in Vienna and London Fashion Week. Her faux-wrap, cotton jersey dress is one to purchase now! In colors like black, mushroom, mint and wine-red it’s a simple dress that goes from Day to Evening with little effort.
