Heather O'Brien visits the new, improved fashion boutique formerly known as Spazio 33
Welcome, Icône: a new, sleeker, grown-up version of the old Spazio 33, located in Prague 1 just off of Pařížská. The improved store, which sells luxury brands from Italy, France, Germany and Sweden, is finally giving Prague that updated "Western" flair that so many people desire but are hard-pressed to find.
Icône is easy to navigate, with five straight-bar T-racks and a limited range handbags, shoes and small accessories above the bars giving the store a clean, upscale vibe. Each bar is broken down into color schemes, not by individual labels, which allows the shopper to concentrate more on the "look" than the brands in question. Of course, Icône carries top-name brands like Pyrus (women's wear), L'autre Chose (women's shoes), Hunkydory, (women's wear) and Coatpeople (women's wear), just to name a few.
The Icône store's owners hit the mark on the color palette, especially for Spring/Summer 2012. Expect to find lots of neutral and very natural colors (muted greens, mushrooms browns, vanilla cream whites, shell tan, sea jade, tobacco, saddle brown, heather gray, etc.). If you are looking for "brights" then I highly recommend that you look elsewhere, unless your idea of brights includes a lipstick-red Bouclé jacket reminiscent of Chanel.
The color palette is natural but so is the overall makeup of the clothing -- cotton blended with silk, wool, or linen is found throughout the store. Silk pants and maxi dresses can be found cuddling up to cotton jackets lined with leather. The only downside to the boutique is some of the prices. Charli, a brand that focuses on "yummy" T's, is priced around 1,700-1,900 CZK. Most of the trousers, blouses and dresses are around 3,000-8,000 CZK.
The boutique is worth a visit and, if you have a couple of extra bills and coins to spare, you won't be disappointed by the quality and the wearability associated with your new brands.
