One Day Without Shoes - For those in need of shoes
One Day Without Shoes Concert Thursday, May 21 @ of JazzDock - #withoutshoes / #bezbot
Shoes are something that we probably take for granted. Some of us spend small fortunes on new pairs that we hardly even wear. But did you know that about 40% of the world’s population don’t even have shoes and can’t afford to buy any?
Shoe brand TOMS are famous for their ‘One for One’ concept- for every pair of TOMS you buy, they will provide a pair of shoes for those who need them. The brand itself is popular around the world, and is available also in the Czech Republic, at www.urbanlux.cz or in Destroy, Baťa and Freshlabels stores.
Every year TOMS organises an event called One Day Without Shoes. This is a barefoot happening, helping to raise awareness of the plight of those without shoes. The event itself is huge, and is joined by thousands of people worldwide, including schools, celebrities and companies. By taking off your shoes, tweeting or facebooking a picture with the hashtag #withoutshoes (or in the Czech Republic #bezbot) you can help to raise awareness of the startling statistic above.
This year TOMS decided to give one pair of shoes for every barefoot photo shared on instagram with the hashtag #withoutshoes, absolutely no purchase necessary. The campaign starts on the 5th of May and goes until the 21st of May.
On the 21st of May, a barefoot concert will be held on the roof of JazzDock near Jiraskuv most in Prague 5, starting at 4pm. Featuring musicians like Emma Smetana and her new acoustic project, and prague’s indie-folk duo Republic of Two, it promises to be a great event - especially if the weather keeps up!
