Burgers, sausages, steaks... Prague.TV’s selection of four quality butchers in Prague

Buying quality meats can be a challenge in Prague if you don’t speak Czech or personally know a good butcher. While shopping at a supermarket chain like Globus or Kaufland is a good option, the following four companies offer quality meats, delivery options and inspiring stories about the origins and growth of these exciting businesses.

: Christopher Robertson established Robertson in 2004 when he bought and began operating a butcher’s shop in Prague 4. After modernizing the shop, he began selling a wide range of home-produced meats and meat products which were not commonly available in Prague at the time. In 2004 Christopher had expanded to a second shop with a focus on British products (and another one in 2011). In 2013 Christopher decided to focus on selling meats and sold his two stores in Dejvice and Vinohrady to the Candy Store that still offers some of his meats.

With an easy to use e-shop available in both Czech and English, Robertson offers a variety of meat products that can be delivered right to your door. Products on offer include all sorts of meat from the basic chicken, pork and beef to lamb, veal, turkey, duck, rabbit as well as trout and salmon.

The BBQ section offers pre-made burger buns and kebabs out of the meat of your choice or packages offering a selection. Chicken wings and ribs are also available as well as high quality eggs, pasta, cheddar, goat cheese and even farmhouse butter. Offering free delivery for orders over 1,200 CZK, it is also possible to pick up your order at the shop at Nuselská 60, Praha 4, 140 00, Monday to Friday from 08:00 – 18:00 and Saturdays between 8 and 11:30. www.robertson.cz

The Real Meat Society: Owned by English-born Paul Day spent years working as a professional butcher in New York, London, Madrid and Istanbul. He moved to Prague in 2009 and opened two restaurants where he works as a chef. The Real Meat Society, run by Paul and his wife, sells meat hand-picked and butchered by Paul Day and offers packed deals full of delicious organic meats, cheeses, herbs and more.

The meat has to be ordered 48 hours in advance and can be picked up either at Náplavní 5 or Petrská 23, the location of one of Paul’s restaurants, Maso a Kobliha (Meat and ‘Donut’). If you want to taste the meat before you try it, visit Maso a Kobliha or Sansho, both get their meat from The Real Meat Society. Opening times at Náplavní 5 are Tuesday and Wednesday 11:00 – 18:00, Thursday and Friday 11:00 – 19:00 and Saturday 9:00 – 13:00. Fresh Bedynky
: What started as a romance between Filip and Veronika who met in 2009 has since turned into a successful and growing company and now employs 25 people. The couple discovered that they were both raw-foodists and avoided eating anything with chemicals – which proved hard to do in Prague. Once they started contacting organic farms to supply themselves and their friends, the idea for Fresh Bedynky was born.

Now, Filip and Veronika are only business partners but take pride in knowing that their relationship had an amazing fruit – the company. Their company currently sells fruit, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, meat, fish, dairy, eggs, pet food and so much more. Their selection of meat includes beef, lamb, turkey, chicken, veal, pork, sausages and sometimes other meats too.

Naše Maso: A team of five butchers and two servers, Naše Maso is a unique butcher’s shop that not only sells quality meats but also serves dinner directly in the butchery. The face of the company, František Kšána, began his career in his father’s shop in Břevnov. All members of the team have their special butcher talents ranging from burgers, sausages, steaks to beef shin goulash.

The store is open Monday through Saturday 9:00 – 22:00 with an evening sale of 25% between 20:00 and 21:00. The bistro is open Monday through Saturday from 18:00 – 22:00 and invites you for an unusually delicious culinary experience.

The e-shop, available in English, offers a variety of meat with information on how to prepare it and what to combine it with. Products include aged Fleckvieh beef (a dual-purpose breed of cattle that is suitable for both milk and meat production) “přeštice” pork and a mouth-watering selection of hams and sausages.
