Discover authentic gifts to spruce up your Czech Christmas

Not sure what to get your loved ones this year for Christmas? Maybe try something unique and special, try to surprise with an original Czech Christmas gift! Forget what you think you know – nesting dolls and furry hats sold in souvenir stores are NOT Czech. There is, however, a wide variety of authentic gifts that you should consider putting under the Christmas tree.

Wellness & Beauty:

Czechs are known for having the best beer in the world (and for drinking more beer than anyone else in the world). Many beer companies offer special “Christmas-flavored” beers, but beer isn’t just great for drinking. There are a variety of great beer products that could make great gifts!

Czech Spa Beerland sells vouchers for a one-hour spa experience in a tub of beer. Tubs fit up to two people so it can be a great gift for individuals, couples or even a group of friends! You can find a complete price list here, but the price of one tub for two starts at 3,000 CZK.

Another option is to buy some Saela Beer Cosmetics. Their e-shop is available in Czech, English, German and Russian: they sell both individual products and gift packages. Examples include original beer shampoo and hair balm (300 ml each) for 253 CZK. Other beer products include: liquid soap, bath oil, peeling, shower gel, bath foam, body lotion and bath salts!

If you want your loved one to be even more beautiful but she isn’t too much into beer spas, how about a voucher to a great salon? Petra Mechurova employs some of Prague's best hair dressers and the salon offers everything from haircuts, coloring and a variety of treatments. Gentlemen, this is guaranteed to make your lady happy. Learn more about the salon here.

Toys:

Czechs have a myriad of wonderful fairy tales, a rich history of puppetry and even world-famous cartoon heroes like Krtek. Toys, especially hand-made wooden ones, are a make a great gift and they classically Czech.

Local Artists is one of Prague’s well-hidden secrets. Since they opened about two years ago, Local Artists have been dedicated to selling authentic Czech products. One of their highlights is the wide selection of wooden toys, hand-made by locals. Every product comes with a wonderful story of its history and origin.

A wooden Krtek toy can make a great gift for children. You can also introduce them to the popular cartoon, which has very little spoken language which makes it so popular around the world. If you want to buy a toy for an adult, consider a spooky witch puppet!

Crystal:

Bohemian crystal is famous around the globe and there are many places in Prague to buy it. Crystal comes in different forms: beautiful vases, sparkling pieces of jewelry or even cute figurines. Unfortunately, it can be easy to walk into an overpriced tourist trap or even end up buying a fake product.

A great high-end yet non-touristy store, Moser glass is one of the best places to go. Their e-shop is available in Czech or English and their prices reflect the high quality of their products. They have an entire section for gifts that is split into the categories: for women, for men and crystal animals.

Other options that guarantee a fair price and high quality are Dana Bohemia (EN, CZ) and Erpet Bohemia Crystal (EN, CZ). Both have e-shops, are situated in Prague’s city center and have great reviews on Trip Advisor.

Travel and Adventure:

The Czech Republic is ideally located in the very heart of Europe, making it easy to travel near and far. Many websites, including Slevomat.cz (CZ) and Slevozdroj.cz (CZ) sell vouchers for either one day, weekend or week-long trips around Europe.

You can find many great deals on trips within the Czech Republic too. Enjoy a family trip where you will meet and learn about donkeys (2,489 CZK), a romantic wellness getaway for two (799 CZK) or experience flying in a hot air balloon (2,490 CZK).

Food and Drinks:

You can also find great vouchers to restaurants, cafes and vineyards. Enjoy delicious cocktails with a great view from the Prague TV tower (189 CZK), or a luxury degustation menu (999 CZK) or discover six bottles of Moravian wine (869 CZK).

Another great gift for those who enjoy liquor is delicious herbal-flavored Becherovka or a bottle of home-made Slivovice (EN/CZ). The best place to get Becherovka is Karlovy Vary, where it was discovered. The museum sells bottles of all sizes, including 5 liters! You can even get a bottle with a personalize name/message for 199 CZK). However almost any grocery and/or liquor store in Prague sells Becherovka.
