11th Historical Airshow - Mladá Boleslav
11th anniversary of the Historical Airshow 2016, Saturday June 11 @ Mladá Boleslav airport
On Saturday, June 11, Mladá Boleslav airport will host the 11th anniversary of the Historical Airshow 2016. To add to the historical atmosphere there will be costumes and several aircraft from the Škoda Museum – many of which left an indelible mark in the history of aviation. Historic battles will come to life above the heads of visitors.
World War II, which was a crucial turning point of the 20th century, will of course be remembered. The Lockheed Electra and Beechcraft 18 were both important planes before the war.
Later on, the American bomber B-25J Mitchell, the fighter plane Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk and the T-6 Texan – Zero made contributions. All of them will be seen flying at the Historical Airshow.
The organizers have also prepared a joint appearance of two aircraft: one had a dramatic role in battle and the second confirmed that the future of fighter aircraft belongs to jet engines. The pair are the Mustang P-51, which belonged to the Allies, and the successful Soviet aircraft MiG-15.
Although the name Historical Airshow evokes that the festival will be all about a time long gone, there will be something to see even for lovers of contemporary art. The Czech Army will present the ferocious power of the Jas-39- Gripen, with the L-159 snapping at it’s heels.
On the other hand the effortless elegance of aerial acrobatics will be performed by glider MDM-1 Fox and two Bücker Jungmann models from the 1930s. The festival will also welcome back glider Lo 100 – the finale for this category of the event will be performed by Martin Šonka. The Czech acrobat, European champion, vice champion of the world in aerial acrobatics and Czech representative in the Red Bull Air Race will be flying his acrobatic aircraft Extra 330L.
If you get out of bed early on Saturday, you’ll be able to watch the first historical planes arrive at the airport between 9:00 and 12:00. At the same time you can sit inside the cockpit of Zlín Z 43 or the dual-motor L 200 Morava and enjoy your very own 15-minute sightseeing flight.
The main program of the Airshow will start at 13:00. From 13:00 to 17:30 there will be performances of iconic airplanes: a pioneer era Grade plane, a replica of a German machine from 1909, and the transformation of aviation over the decades will be mapped out by the Jas-39 Gripen. Make sure to take a close look at the map of the area to make sure you won’t miss any of the exhibited planes that took on this long road together.
The organizers recommend that visitors plan ahead for traffic and give themselves enough time to arrive and see the airshow. Parking at the airport is free and the capacity has been expanded since last year.
Tickets for the event can be bought in presale or at the door. Children under 6 and everyone over 70 get free entry. The organizers are also offering a limited amount of VIP tickets allowing access to the backstage of the airshow, allowing you to get even closer to the airplanes.
For more information about ticket sales and directions to airport can be found on the Historical Airshow 2016 pages.
