Avril Lavigne’s The Best Damn Tour is making its way to O2 Arena on Tuesday, July 8th, so dig out your pink heart-and-crossbones T-shirt, and make way for Canada’s “punk princess.”
Born to French-Canadian parents in Belleville, Ontario, in 1984, Avril’s family took notice of her talent at a young age.
In 1998, just barely a teen, Lavigne won a contest that placed her onstage with Shania Twain during Twain’s first major tour.
From there, Lavigne pushed forward to become an international pop star with sales of 36 million albums worldwide.
Avril’s freshman album, Let Go, was released in 2002, with her first single, Complicated, racing through the radio stations and soon claiming a spot at number two on the Billboard Chart.
Next, Sk8er Boi, which reminded the popular girls to be nice to those questionable skateboarders, climbed into the top-10 ranking and thus, a pop star was born.
In 2004, Avril’s second album, Under My Skin, was released, introducing an abrupt change for the star in both image and music.
A far more introspective album, it got mixed reviews by critics, but did well with her fans just the same and made it to the number one spot despite her jaunt through less-edgy lane.
Avril’s third and most recent release, The Best Damn Thing, returned to the catchy and upbeat music that the artist has come to prefer. Girlfriend, her first release on the album is her biggest hit to date.
An energetic and charged album, Lavigne describes it as, “fast, fun, young, bratty, aggressive, confident, cocky in a playful way.”
