The National Library is hosting an exhibit of nativity scenes to mark the 450th anniversary of the first nativity scene in the Czech lands.

The exhibition showcases a collection of nativity scenes from the 18th century up to the beginning of the 20th century, all on loan from the Museum of Nativity Scenes in Karlštejn.

The bulk of what’s on display is made of wood, but materials also include sugar, bread, wax, clay, plaster, durolin and plastic. Size wise, the nativity scenes range from a large 110cm x 220cm mechanized one to tiny sugar-made scenes.
