From Saturday, February 27 until Sunday, April 18, the Matějská pouť (St. Matthew's Fair) returns to Výstaviště. For seven weeks, the Holešovice fairground's small collection of permanent attractions will be boosted by a wide range of travelling rides and amusements -- mainly, for no obvious reason, from the Netherlands. Held at Výstaviště since 1963, the fair actually dates back to 1595 and has its roots in a religious pilgrimage that ended at Kostel svatého Matěje (St. Matthew's Church) in Prague 6-Dejvice. These days, Matějská pouť is devoted solely to fun, offering adrenalin junkies of all ages the thrills, spills, sights, sounds and smells common to fairgrounds around the world.
