Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band is a silly name for a Norwegian electronica outfit, but it's a name to watch all the same.
Following in the footsteps of fellow Bergen natives Röyskopp, the group craft hypnotic but huggable dance music, full of character and charm.
Although early in their career "Ralph" (Erlend Sellevold) and the "band" (Thomas Lonnheim and Tarjei Strom) have already enjoyed commercial success, albeit via a peculiar route.
Unusually, the use of the then-unsigned band's track Nikita on a Volkswagen TV commercial provided the exposure the band needed to first get a record deal and then score a hit.
On the back of the VW ad, the three-piece's debut, A Special EP, entered the Norwegian singles charts at number 8.
There's much more to the RM&JHB than soundtracking car commercials, however, and much critical acclaim has flowed their way. Respected DJ-producer Richard Dorfmeister, for instance, has heralded the group as "simply brilliant".
Unlike most electronica acts, Ralph Myers & The Jack Herren Band can also cut the mustard live, creating a spectacular live show out of their dreamy, quirky dance music.
"We feel it is very important that people should have a good time going to our shows," explains Sellevold. "Because we grew up on Kiss and other hairy rock bands, we thought it'd be a great thing to do a pyro show - you know, bring the 'rock' show to the electronic music stage."
The show starts at 8pm and tickets are 250 Kč.
