Despite their pretences that business is as usual, it seems more than likely that SkyEurope is going bankrupt. That had better be the case; otherwise there would be every indication that the company is out to rob unsuspecting individuals the evidence of which is plenty.

We bought two tickets to Brussels in August 2008 with the SkyEurope. At the airport, just before check in, we were told that our flight was cancelled due to a strike by SkyEurope’s ‘handlers’ at Brussels’s airport. Later I found out (I am an investigative journalist) that the ‘handlers’ had not been paid, but that’s besides the point. We were given forms to fill to be refunded by SkyEurope, went off to buy tickets from other airlines at sky high prices and flew to Brussels.

A few days later, we sent our completed forms to SkyEurope and waited for our refunds. Nothing happened for a month. I contacted them both by phone and E-mail. They claimed they had already paid my bank the sum due to me. The bank denied the receipt of any such money. I wrote to SkyEurope again. This time adopting an intimidating attitude, they said as far as they were concerned, they had sent me the money and that the matter was closed for them!! The bank wanted to have the details of the transaction, but SkyEurope absolutely refused to give out any details, and for good reason, because no such transaction had taken place. SkyEurope chose to ignore all my emails.

Only when I decided to take legal action against them ( and of course make a comprehensive public report on it) that SkyEurope contacted me and formally apologized for “the mistake” and promised that the money would be sent to my bank soon. That was nearly two months ago!! Nothing happened.

I contacted them again. This time they said that they were going through “administrative changes” and that all payments had been delayed. Surprise, surprise!! SkyEurope is coming clean. In reply to my enquiry if they were going into receivership, they said “not yet”!!

SkyEurope is either in deep financial trouble and going bankrupt or is going to be in trouble by betraying its customers who will not keep their resolve for much longer. If it is SkyEurope’s policy to rob passengers this way, and then go on using every possible trick to deny their rights, sooner or later (in my case very soon) they find themselves in a big legal scandal. I have decided to take legal action against them regardless of the costs. My costs will be paid by the guilty party. I shall start a journalistic campaign of revealing the truth against them; too, so unsuspecting individuals would not lose out to a highway robber.

SkyEurope does seem to be having serious financial problems. They recently had six of their planes seized by the company they loan them from:

Sam, you may have been hanging around with Czechs for too long a time. I thought only Czechs could get that loan/lend/borrow/rent/hire thing so screwed up. What's with that?

Oops. Not enough tea, perhaps.

Have you guys heard anything about RyanAir?

I don't really follow these things but they still seem to be doing reasonably well. Last I heard, they were planning to launch some trans-Atlantic routes.

Hi all. I have booked a flight for myself and five friends to fly with Skyeurope on 26/06/09 to Bratislava. I booked this in October 08. I had an email a few weeks ago apologizing that they have had to cancel our flight due to " adaptation and harmonization of route plan and time table". I smelt a rat straight away. I contacted them and asked for a refund. They sent me a form to fill out and send back. I was expecting a swift refund and i think 1 week is long enough.

Nothing happened so i rang them to hurry them along. I was told that it will be made in 6 weeks! That is unacceptable. I emailed them and have had no response. I have now read other posts and information that seems to point in the direction that Skyeurope are going to go bust and they are holding peoples money will lame excuses to avoid paying it, giving them enough time to go into administration. I think it's an outright con of trusting people to keep taking money knowing they will never pay it back.

Everyone should be on their guard and book with a more solid carrier. Ive informed my credit card company who will get on the case when Skyeurope do the decent thing and make it public instead of stringing people along.

As soon as I read "smelt a rat", I smell a rat.

We just returned from yet another nice trip on SkyEurope. The fare was cheap, the check-in was fine, and the in-flight service was friendly and fine for a no-frills type airline.

Yes, we were originally booked to go out in the afternoon, but the flight was cancelled. Sky changed us with no hassles whatsoever to the morning flight (our choice) and the only difference was a few hours less sleep and a few more hours in Paris.

It takes a long time in this country for refunds. It's not just SkyEurope. I don't know why you just didn't rebook to a different flight. You'd have had less hassles and would still have a good trip.

to paulrm - I totally accept your comments to gavnic "why you just didn't rebook to a different flight" ?? It often isnt that simple - we were flying from prague to venice and it was cancelled and no more flights that day!! Therefore leaving us to be stranded in prague!!!

you were lucky - I dont think it seems many other are!!!

kw..

Please note that he wrote that he booked a flight in late June of this year; a date that was more than 3 months from when he wrote that posting. Frankly, I don't believe what was written, but that's neither here nor there.

That's a considerably different situation than having a flight cancelled after you are already at your destination. But, I've been flying for more than 45 years, on airlines large and small, and have had flights changed or cancelled in advance or at the last minute on many occasions.

To put this as a problem unique to SkyEurope is disingenuous and frankly, nonsense.

In February SkyEurope has cancelled the flight Manchester-Birmingham on July 19, which I booked on January 4. On March 23-rd I asked SkyEurope for refund in the amount of EUR 137.00. On May 7-th the Reservation Agent informed me that they have processed my refund request, it was forwarded to the financial department on April 15-th and the refundable amount will be credited back to my card account within the next 4-6 weeks. Nobody contacted me since that time and they are not replying for my further complaints. THEY ARE REALLY IN DEEP FINANCIAL TROUBLE!

i just came back from my vacations in lisbon.

i've booked a flight with Sky Europe, from Athens to Prague and then from Prague to Lisbon with return on Prague.

Arrived at Athens airport the flight had 11.10 hours of delay,(showing 03.30 in the next morning, from 16.40 that was the originary departure time) but they didn't advise us before.

This way i was loosing the next flight to lisbon. I had a verbaly fighting in the check in counters (initialy they respond that for any problem i had to call to the sky europe call center from my cell phone. This one due to the translocation of flights from vienna to bratislava and the calls from all over europe, was always busy and i couldn't take the line-), finelly they called internally and they change me the flight via bratislava (initialy there was no such flight, but due to the traslocation of flights from vienna to bratislava the flight from vienna had a 4 hours delay and that way i could make it to catch that plane in bratislava airport).

The flight from Athens to bratislava, had also a 3 hours delay (i waited 50 minutes inside the plane with no aircondition and no explanation) but finally i made did it to arrive on time to Bratislava, because also that plane was on 2 more hours on retard (initialy 22.30 from Vienna, programmed 01.00 from bratislava and finally departed at 02.45).

The stress that i passed it was very high as if i had lost one of the flights i had lost, also the hotel reservations in lisbon and 2 days of vacation (the next flight from prague to lisbon was 2 days after).

At the airport of athens they denied me to give food or drinks initialy when they changed me the flight to bratislava.

The worse was in bratislava airport when there was (between other people) a mother with a child under 1 year old. Her flight to amsterdam was cancelled and the next was 12 hours after (next morning). The lady at the desk office of Sky Europe denied her a hotel saying that sky europe is one step before bankrupt and can't pay hotals in this occations. She said also that she was also working at that time without beeing payed.

The return from lisbon to prague had also a 2 hours delay. We waited 40 minutes inside the plane for the documents of the flight. Finally a controller arrived checked all the papers of the flight and remained inside the cockpit for the flight (checking for possible problems i suppose).
Finally all the vacation passed with the stress of arriving and the unknown way of returning
as i couldn't know what will happend

My advise :dont use this company even if they give you flights for free. (As i will do this for the future).

And SkyEurope bites the dust.

I will miss them. They caused airfares all over Europe to go lower, and contrary to some of the opinions above, I flew them about 15 times over the years with virtually no problems.

R.I.P.

Agreed. Personally, I had no problems flying with SkyEurope either. Hopefully, Wizz Air will take over SkyEurope's routes and keep fares low.

this was an incredible news at the time. I had to wait for a flight from Munich 4 hours without knowing this and i am still trying to recover my money
