This is a Prague institution and on a sunny evening you can find just about every kind of person in here: a real mix of Czechs and foreigners, everyone having a good time. It's dirty and the beer's not great, it's true - but there's something special about this place and you're guaranteed a fun night. Best time to go is on a warm summer's afternoon for a cold, quiet beer, or when some big sporting event's on - enjoy the big screen and the excellent atmosphere. If you fancy something decent to eat, skip the grilled sausages and get a tasty hallumi salad at the place next door (just opposite the entrance).
Oct-12-2010I realize people love this is place as it is one of the only large beer gardens in this town, but come on! It’s filthy! The Letna beer garden is dirty too, as one would expect from an outdoor area with lots of drunken people, but ‘Riegrac’ certainly takes the cake. Forget about going there with children; the ground is littered with cigarettes buds, there are dog on the loose and packs of drunken students strewn across the benches. Don’t get me wrong, I have a 60 kg dog and certainly have nothing against dogs running lose in parks, but I do mind if my child’s lunch is stolen by a cheeky Pitbull, whose owner is relaxing with a spliff 200 m to the left. In the past the pub also famously ‘boasted’ of having the dirtiest toilets in town. They’ve improved on that count, but still not a place one would want to see perfectly sober. Having said that the beer is cold and cheap and they have large screens showing sporting events.
Feb-23-2010Riegrovy sady or riegrač is the best beer garden in the city and the kind of place which would never happen in the States. Good beer and some grilled sausages are always on hand. The expat oasis in Prague 2/3. Now all we need is some sunshine.
