I am a foreign student looking to go to a good film school in Europe (that wont put me in debt for the rest of my life). Research has brought me to Prague due in part to the city, cheaper schools, supposed high level of teaching, focus on cinematography. Does anyone have any opinions on certain schools? PCFE Film School & International FAMU are where Im looking. Anyone hear anything good? Bad?

I've heard mixed things about FAMU's programs for foreigners. It has been a notoriously disorganized school in the last few years, with funding issues (like everyone else). Still, though, it produces some great domestic talent. Not sure whether it trickles down to the foreigners though.

Actually i worked on a small film project recently with the director of the foreigner's program at FAMU and in talking to him it seems they had made some big improvements to the program in the last years..

There was some big shakeup 3 or 4 years ago when there were numerous complaints by foreigners that their tuition cash was going to fund the CZ program and they received little support. (I believe the Prague Pill did an article on it back in the day.) Apparently big changes have taken place since and the program is back on track.

PCFE: Talk to some people who have attended. Maybe even ask them to put you in touch with Alumni.

Thanks guys.

I actually heard the same thing about FAMU, that their reputation has been built on their Czech program, not the international one. Hopefully things have changed, although it seems a bit general and beginner oriented. I have ben hearing good things about PCFE. Any opinions?

Yeah, i'm not sure how hard it is to be 'admitted' to PCFE. They are very new. It seems the ggave some film classes ansd then launched a school when the response was high. Ask around. Sometimes they seem like more a business than a school. Talk to people who went to the program. Talk to the teachers. I would be concerned if they do not provide you with a list and contacts for teachers. That is strange.
