Hi everyone, this is my first post here.

I am planning to move to Europe after I graduate, most likely to Prague, Krakow or Stockholm. If you are a Czech, would you mind answering these questions?

1. What are some of the things you liked or disliked about the Americans you've actually met, either in Prague or when visiting the USA? What about our culture seemed strangest or most memorable to you?

2. I have to take some language courses for my degree. My choices are Spanish, German or Russian. Which do you think would be the most helpful in the Czech Republic until I learn enough Czech to get along?

Thank you for any opinions - good or bad - and advice!

What I liked was the openness, straightforward mentality attitude to women, kindness. I hear that Americans here are a lot different to the ones based home in the US. I have never been there so can`t judge. There were some, though, who were sort of unable to understand that the world is not the USA, if you follow me. Basically, I must say my impression was very positive and I do miss some of those who went back home in the end.

If you ask about strange or memorable features, I have to say it is pointing to people when greeting, accompanied by some of hey man, cuties, and so on. So maybe the body language. But again it was very individual.

I have to say I must have been extremely lucky, having met nice, educated, fun people whose company I have always liked and in some cases, luckily for me can still benefit from.

When it comes to languages, as you can possibly imagine, Russian would be the closest to Czech as it is a slavic language as well. I have to warn you a little. Our language is beautiful but very complicated and hard to learn. I teach it and there are many drop-outs, I`d say. I managed to tell you what you asked for. Good luck with your studuies and hopefuly Prague sees you come in some time in future. It`s definitely worth it.

Regards,

Hanja
