I have lived and driven in Europe 20 years...8 of those in this country...before that Singapore, LA, Vancouver,Montreal, NYC and I must say I have never experienced more idiotic, selfish and simply dangerous drivers anywhere...well I dont include my southeast asia experiences. Yesterday I was driving to Slapy (crazily doing only 15km over the limit) when some monkey in an Audi sped up behind me and sat on my ass ( but I mean NASCAR on my ass) for a least a kilometer...I briefly tapped the brakes to let him know I wasnt pleased and this pyschopath sped up beside drove into my lane and intentionally tried to run me off the road...it was like an episode of ROckford FIles...then he lowered his tinted windows and was shooting at me with his hand formed as a pistol...I laughed at the guy and it made him even more angry so he braked and dropped in behind me and twice bumped me..then sped off...I got his plate number and called the police and they said there is not much they could do, they didnt even seem to think his behavoir was somewhat anti-social.

I drive twice a week between Prague and KV and I swear I have never come across so many idiots willing to put innocent lives in danger by driving like complete morons...passing around corners, over the crest of hills...tailgaiting like it was Daytona, all the while frothing a the mouth, yelling ty-vole and flashing their lights.

There is something in czech male culture that breeds an alarming high percentage of these pseudo-macho monkeys at the wheel...I know its an old rant, but I had to vent....women and older drivers here dont seem to have this affliction, and seem to behave normally behind the wheel, apart from a bit too much yacking on the mobile phones...but they dont own that habit....you would think the weekly tv reports showing the usual road carnage would sink in...I know the state is straped for cash but the only time you see anything resembling highway patrol is the money grubbing speed traps on almost abandoned road construction sites...most everywhere else in Europe (or at least west of ex-communist block borders) or North America there is a visible presence of some kind of law and traffic enforcement.

When the guy in the Audi, 'bumped' your car - and left even a small scratch - it should be reported as criminal damage (or the Czech equiv).

Road rage without some damage and witnesses is often recognised as one guys word against another.

Just a thought ...

all the time, all the time.
Maybe if the police quit krysingoff and spent some time on the roads and with speed traps soemthing could be done!

This is very simply explained - all the testosterone-laden monkeys in this country finally have banks that they can convince to give them loans to buy cars that go faster than 120 km/h. They're like a country of 16-year olds with new Camaros their daddy bought them.

Egyptians are crazy drivers, but not like these people. They speed and drive crazy in order to get somewhere faster. If you get into the flow of traffic, what appears to be insane actually follows a quite predictable pattern. The Czech NASCARists are not predictable, and thus much more dangerous. To top things off, they're usually talking on their fucking mobile phones.

This is technically illegal, but the phone companies are complicit in allowing it to go on. All that you'd have to do to prevent it is to count the number of cells a person passes through in a given time. If they pass more than a certain number, they're likely in a car, so the service should be shut off until they stop moving. Sorry, but nobody is that important.

I've found that people driving Audis are, almost without exception, life-threatening morons. Don't know why that is - must be an asshole factor in their advertising or something...

I'll agree with most of this with you on this one Micah.
also drunk driving is on the rise!
ck1 - [profile] Mon Jul 25th 12:37 2005 / #5
The "service" you're talking about from the mobile operators is technically feasible, albeit horrendously complex, but where's the motivation to do such a thing? Would people actually choose Oskar over T-Mobile if they implemented such a "feature"? Doubtful.
Micah Micah - [profile] Mon Jul 25th 12:55 2005 / #6
It ought to be enforced by law. If firearms manufacturers could build in functionality that would prevent the gun from being used to kill a child, how would you feel about a company that said, "we could do that, yes, but we'd lose so much money on the customers who want to shoot children responsibly..."
ck1 - [profile] Mon Jul 25th 13:44 2005 / #7
I'm not making a moral judgement about whether it would be right or wrong to do it. I'm saying that, on the off chance that the government started talking about requiring such a thing, the operators would start squealing and complaining about how such a thing would be so difficult, would require such an investment, etc.

Business usually has its way in matters like this. Sad but true.

Luckily, I drive a little skoda shit box so I am rarely in the left lane. :-) These drivers are horrible and it has gotten worse but I will take Czech drivers over Vietnamese any day though. A family of five on a motorbike carrying a gaggle of geese strung up by their feet and trucks that time forgot mixed with 9 million other people of questionable driving acumen all seemingly on the road at the same time is enough to make you love the E55.
skin - [profile] Mon Jul 25th 14:22 2005 / #9
How would it be known the phone user was driving and not a passenger?
Micah Micah - [profile] Mon Jul 25th 14:32 2005 / #10
Guess the passenger would have to wait too. There's a law like that about alcohol in Virginia - you can't have an open container anywhere in the car. When other people's lives are potentially in danger, I don't think that the dubious convenience of being able to chat to your girlfriend in traffic is worth fighting over.

CK1, you're right. It would never pass. It should, but it would never happen.
skin - [profile] Mon Jul 25th 14:42 2005 / #11
More accidents would be caused if every car had to stop in order for one of the passengers to make a call. Your on a long coach/train trip and can't use your mobile/cell, annoying? Although on seconds thought banning use of phones on public transport isn't a bad idea. Especially 15 year old girls. In general though Micah it's a ridiculous idea, the police should just stop and fine them.
I thought the law on drink in cars was nationwide in the States? That wouldn't go down well in UK.
kr??ska - [profile] Tue Oct 25th 19:10 2005 / #12
Assholes aside, I feel there should be a minimum speed limit to correspond with the apparently unlimited maximum. It would prove most helpful in some situations, such as when you are in the right hand lane going 130 and you are several car lengths behind a truck going similar speed - but then the truck veers left suddenly, to avoid the 1910 model Skoda going 20 km/h. Sure.. you're thinking I'm far enough behind him to stop. Damn skippee I am. But the BMW that's about to make an illegal pass on the right is already up my ass and DOESN'T have time to stop.

Interesting, after 4 years in Warsaw, Czech drivers seem to be way more disciplined compared to the Poles who not only drive like idiots, they have to deal with roads five times shittier than here and with greater traffic. Even my Polish friends who visit and drive in Czech comment how much more calmer the Czech driving is.

Oh, and i agree Audi drivers are driving death traps, complete morons. Interesting that Merc and BMW drivers seem to be far more measured. Maybe the Audi drivers as people, like their cars are just trying to prove a bit too much ..
kr??ska - [profile] Fri Nov 11th 17:22 2005 / #14
Are you kidding??

I agree Audi driver's are often maniacs. But FAR more common is the fkchead BMW driver. It's a special personality that buys that car, I'm telling you. Certifiable, all of them.
[ anonymous ] - [anon] Fri Nov 11th 17:29 2005 / #15
Yes, the BMW drivers might drive fast and agressively, but they are much better 'drivers' than their Audi counterparts who often are trying to prove other points to compensate for their small penises. Meanwhile the BMW driver simply wants to get quickly from A to B.

Just my observation, and no, im neither an audi or bmw driver.
kr??ska - [profile] Fri Nov 11th 17:57 2005 / #16
I don't count people who tailgate 2 inches at 160 km/h in the rain "better drivers". But that's just me.

water skiing is great experience, but very risky and not neccesary at all
Webdrinks - [profile] Thu Nov 17th 14:10 2005 / #18
Yeah, Czech drivers. I used to be Czech driver once... finally bought something more practical for work that doesn't motivate me to drive like a knob all the time... Mind you, Australia is bad that way as well. Especially Melbourne, impossible to merge lanes there. People have been know to be stuck for days on end before finally being let into a lane. You know, its all to do with enforceability of the law. If I'm young, have something that moves and know (until now - or soon anyway) that I can't lose driver points then I'm going to risk, at least in a certain proportion of cases. Cruising speed on the highways is 150-160 km/h (regardless of the law - 130 km/h) which is not so bad, if undertaken responsibly.
kr??ska - [profile] Thu Nov 17th 15:39 2005 / #19
If the driver and car can handle it, 160 isn't the issue. It's the reckless driving that often accompanies it. The Germans seem to manage safely at that speed and higher. I've done as well. Why can't the Czechs?
[ anonymous ] - [anon] Fri Nov 18th 18:48 2005 / #20
Czechs, most Male Czechs, are like Jekyll and Hyde.
Nice out side the car,, BUT inside!!!
They really do change and I mean for the worse!!
Lane swapping, tail gating and not stopping on crossings, just to name a few.
I spent a few years in Greece and they are crazy, but at least they are preditable!! Unlike here!!
Webdrinks - [profile] Sun Nov 20th 00:42 2005 / #21
Kraska - 'cause the Czechs have only had the freedom and cash to drive like silly buggers since 91. It'll take a generation or so for the bloodlines to be thinned out :-). In the meantime, take care on the roads. BTW, Germans are total tossers on Czech roads (and not only there), so maybe its something in the air?

You need cops on the roads, plain and simple (or in regular uniforms and smart).

I was watching news the other day and they had driven from prague to Pilzen and not seen a single cop car on the road. How do you deter idiots if there is no presence.

Also roads are a problem here too, but even on the "big highways" people still drive at 220 and up.

Enforcement of the points system is key and probably some culling but that's a no no.

> You need cops on the roads, plain and simple

Yes, but make sure they have cars that can keep up with the idiots in a chase :-)
gwaitsi - [profile] Thu Nov 29th 10:44 2007 / #25
webdrinks, firstly in Melbourne you can overtake on the left or right (legally) so drivers may appear bad to you, when in fact they are just following the law.

I never had a problem over taking on the left or right and still do in fact....Germans love it :-)

One thing about Melbourne, we certainly know how to deal with these moroons. Personally, i don't brake. I bite onto something (just in case), and stick the car straight into 2nd gear. That normally puts a fright up them and they back off.

Cops are totally useless here (had a guy run into me going in the wrong direction on a one-way - cops didn't do a bloody thing).

Best to keep a club-lock under the drivers seat, when you get someone like that. cut the prick off and take to him with the club-lock. that's another Melbourne trait.

I know this is an old post but...

I don't miss much about america, but one thing I do GREATLY miss is defensive driving. Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that america is not full of complete morons that seem to have gotten their driver's licenses from cereal boxes, but on the whole... I feel much safer on the road in the states than I do in Czech Republic...

Is it possible to eliminate these people who keep signing up with different names just to post garbage advertising? No wonder no one reads these boards anymore.
