I disagree - I've seen taxi stands all over the city fitted with new signs stating point-to-point fares. I've also noticed taxi drivers being much more friendly and forthcoming with the receipt.
But maybe it's just the booze. |

Although I am amazed and gratified about Bem's undercover bust of taxi drivers in Prague it is hardly a speck on the history of politicians disguising themselves in order to glean information about their city, state, or country.
I cite for example:
Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder disguising himself as a fire hydrant to understand the number of "Illicit Canine Urinal Discharge" incidents in the city of Hamburg.
Prime Minister Jean Chretienne disguising himself as Football Hooligan to beat the tar out of protesters wielding two-by-fours.
President George Bush Disguising himself as 'Someone with a Brain Larger than a Shrivelled Raisin on Crack' to get into "...those nifty meetings where a lot of smart guys get together and talk about cool stuff..". Sadly it never works and he finds himself yet again the recipient of derisive giggles.
President Gorbachev's thinly veiled attempt to disguise himself as Cuba by having the map of the country painted on his head. He blamed the failing economy of the Soviet Union as the reason for his cheap disguise. Why he did it was never discovered.
And who can forget Ho Chi Min disguising himself as a trail in order to run a poll on cross-country skiers in North Vietnam?
The total turned out to be 0
Thank you for your time.
I believe i'm having what's known as a 'silly day' |

I happen to know that a team of part-time czechs with a second language was recruited last year to 'sting' the taxis. They would take a taxi from a tourist route like the airport to town, pretending to be British, Russian etc and pay whatever was asked (but get a receipt). When the taxi was out of sight, the office would be called if they were overcharged and the taxi driver arrested by the police. I don't know how much this helped, but I would guess that the taxi drivers soon worked out that this new risk existed. |

'I would guess that the taxi drivers soon worked out that this new risk existed.' - More than likely they knew it was going to happen. Many taxi drivers here have lots of 'connections' - they seem to know what is going on in the city better than anyone. The 'stings' last a short time, then it is back to business as usual. |

Why doesn't the airport have any public connection to town between midnight and 4 am? Also, all their pay phones tend to be busted. I guess it's on purpose so that everyone has to rely on those scammers waiting in front of the airport. |
