I took out contractual insurance from VZP CR and understood that it covered general healthcare. So I made an appointment with a doctor that was on the list they gave me for an annual gynecological check-up. Upon arrival to the doctor's office, I showed her my card and she made a copy of it. After the exam, she told me that I owed her 2,000 Kc! She said that she works only one day for the insurance and that day is already full. I'm really upset about this scam and I wonder if any of you has a family doctor and/or gynecologist (I'm looking for both) who will take on new patients and work under the VZP insurance without charging any additional fee. Thanks!

I would not have paid her. If you showed her your card, and she said nothing, I would have argued that she undertook the work on that basis.

You are best finding out from the insurance company. It sounds more like fraud from the Doctor then the insurance carrier. Or even better go to the foreigners clinic at Motol. I am sure they honour the medical plan. I have ALWAYS found the staff more then accomodating. Call Motol to confim if they take your perticular plan.

Christine, I also had the same insurance you have, Dlouhodobe Smluvni Zdravotni Pojisteni, and I never had any problems with my coverage. Actually had 2 surgerys which were covered. I think the case you have encountered is a dodgy doctor out to make some cash. That sucks, sorry to hear. I will also look into what other options you might have.

By the way try submitting the bill to the insurance carrier with an explaination. They might reimburse you. They will definetly get in touch with the doctor and discuss his/her practices. I never heard of a doctor limiting their practice by insurance carrier.

This is probably the best option you could get in Prague. Don't EVER go to the public gyneciligist.

www.gyncentrum.cz - 266 610 245. My doctor - Dr. Pohl is the best!!!

You got scammed, that is illegal. Get the police involved, drastic situations call for drastic measures.

You should have called the cops right there in the office, that would have made your bill disappear fast, real fast.

Honestly, I could not believe your testimony. I was thinking VZP insurance is really true. Cosmetic Dentistry
