A word of warning to expat job seekers in Prague

If you're an English-speaking expat fresh off the plane, or an expat who's been here for some time without ever learning the language and who doesn't have enough marketable skills to work for a foreign corporate, then be wary what jobs you're applying for. Particularly if they're with expat employers. Some of them are very nasty customers indeed and they prey on the naivety of new arrivals or old hands desperate for any type of work other than teaching English. If you know expats who have been here for a while, then ask them. If you monitor English language non-corporate job listings then you should quickly figure out who they are because some of them keep popping up time and time again. Watch out in particular for a hotel manager position, as the owner hasn't managed to grasp the concept of emotional and social intelligence. The same goes for just about any English language publications - publishers tend to be petty egoists more interested in their title than their function. Any magazines purporting to cover the luxury segment of the Czech market should be avoided at all costs. Expat call centres and alleged international conference organisers should also be given as wide a berth as possible.
