I have to support Henrik, and his Swedeness, IKEA has the goods for this, we went and tested alot (don't worry we were wearing our protective scarves) of the matresses, decided on the ... more tvrdy and now had two guests who thoroughly enjoyed it. I say its' better to pay more for quality than suffer on a gimpy sleep stack, not sure if the other shops here have the good matresses. |

when I lived in Prague, the IKEA stopped making a Western style mattress. Unless you have one shipped over and 1 800 mattres in the US will ship overseas, you will be hard pressed to find an actaul box spring in prague. I suffered on a futon style thing on the floor and then had an inflatable thing. |

There are plenty of box spring mattresses at Ikea. I find it very difficult to believe that mattresses in America are any different from normal ones. |

Do Ikea sell anything that is 'real'? |

Most of the stuff I have seen is chipboard and cheap pine. But I suppose if one cannot afford furniture, it will do as a substitute. |

I have often wondered about the mattresses too, because I will be moving to Prague soon, and I've looked at many pictures of apartments, and all of the beds seem different compared to what we have here in America. The beds, as well as the pillows, appear to be very thin. I don't plan on changing the mattress once I am living there though. Experiencing the differences in countries is what makes traveling fun. |

you can get a slab of 6" foam with the egg-crate pattern on one side and sleep on that, on the floor or on top of whatever platform frame you have. I don't know where to get it but it's a cheaper way to make your bed and then lay in it. |

Yeah Danica, actually that is my biggest problem, pillows! Where the hell do you get real pillows? Why don't the Czechs like pillows? |

There is a special viscoelastic pressure-relieving material developed initially by NASA in order to be put in the space shuttles. They have abandoned the initial researches in order to get a better material and the first researches were continued by a Swedish company which later was acquired and becomed Tempur-Pedic Inc. At this moment they are creating one of the best mattress in the world and you can find a tempurpedic mattress on sale at ebed dot com. Have a look. And I am preety sure they do international delivery. If not there is a big chance you can find such mattresses somewhere aroung Prague. |
