Hi
I will be visting Prague 27/31 Dec 09 with my 12yr old son who desperately wants to see snow. We are non-skiers but would like a day-trip to a ski resort (or mountain village with snow). Was thinking of a bus / train trip to Jested / Harrachov / Spindleruv Mlyn etc. Any advice on what is best to do in a day, would be much appreciated. Thanks all.
Basil

Well sadly it's a terrible season so far, no snow at all in the CZ. The weather reports say it will start snowing in the next week or so, but who knows ...

Regarding where to go, there are a few good articles right here on the site, I assume you've seen them, eg

http://prague.tv/articles/sports/snowboarding-and-skiing-in- the-czech-republic
http://prague.tv/articles/sports/janske-lazne

All the locations you mention are doable in a day, the trip is ~3hrs by bus but there are several buses daily. The articles here can give you an idea of which one might be most fun for you both.

Let's just hope for some snow!

They say it will start snowing from the 10th, but looking at the long forecast it doesn't look promising right now.

Austria has some snow and it is not undoable for a couple nights from Prague (5-6 hrs drive).

I will update you when I hear more.

Here is the latest snow report, not much to speak of, but more on the way, the Sumava area looks to have the most new/good snow:

It still amazes me that no one actually READS the posts they reply to. The first person wrote that he would be here and gone by 9 December. He was GONE 5 days by the time the last person wrote their "advice".

Another argument for putting expiration/kill dates into messages.

It confounds me that someone so loudly critical and full of bile doesn't carefully read what they are so excited to criticise. The original poster said :

"I will be visting Prague 27/31 Dec 09"

Not the clearest notation, but still pretty obviously meaning from the 27th to the 31st of December, ie in 2 weeks time.

Take a few deep breaths paulrm. Vent your frustration somewhere else, preferrably on something inanimate. Give humanity a second chance. We're not all imbeciles :-)

Hey - don`t intend to start a fight here! Yes jak, I did mean 27th December to 31st December!!
I have been to Prague many times in the past (always between xmas & new year) and usually encounter cold & foggy weather. Doesn`t bother me as I usually like it like that and as a travel agent I tend to spend most of my time checking out hotels and negotiating group rates. It`s just that this time I`ll be with my young son who (incredibly) has never seen significant snow. We live in Northern Ireland so it`s pretty well rain all the way!! Hence the original enquiry. Looked at the webcams on the Ski Jested site (there`s SNOW - artificial but still SNOW) and reckon that a morning bus from Cerny Most to Liberec and then tram number 3 to `the slopes` would maybe be best.
Many thanks for everyone`s help.
Basil

You're correct. I misread it and humbly apologize.
