I'd like to recommend The Language House. I took the TEFL course there in August 2005 and loved it so much that I came back a few months later to work for them. Chris Westergaard is a great guy and most people I know who took the course would recommend it. Please feel free to contact me at buttercup511@hotmail.com if you have any questions. Also the web site is www.thelanguagehouse.net |

Concerning the Language House I would check out some of the other posts on this forum about them.I definitely wouldn't recommend the Language House to anyone. If you do decide to go with the language house then expect cramped conditions and a complete lack of respect for education as a whole.oh, also do your math before you hand over the 34,000 CK.the language house is an expensive school.

Russ,
I have a feeling that you never attended or program. I wrote you a letter a few days ago and never got any kind of response. If you simply are interested in causing feuds between TEFL courses, then that's great. But... Please leave or school out of it.
Thanks a bunch,
Chris W

what i find amazing is the speed chris in which you respond to posts on forums like this.
do you have a little red phone which lights up every time a negative post is made about your `school` on one of the numerous teaching forum sites on the internet?
hey, i bet that phone is ringing ALL the time hehe.
well,that is it.
i am SICK of being asked to shut my mouth by you mr westergaard.
you win.
i just feel sorry that freedom of speech is a dirty phrase to you.
this is my last forum post.
i hope the many other UNHAPPY LANGUAGE HOUSE GRADS out there have the courage to write further truths about this school in forums.
it is the only way people can be warned about what awaits them

Dear Russ,
Actually someone mentioned it to me and we were all curious who it could possibly be. When someone goes on a rant on multiple forums, it doesn't take long for things to get back to us. Also Russ, its been four days. That's not hyperspeed or anything.
The thing is, if you are student that took our course, you should tell us who you are. I have no problem with you expressing your opinion if it is a real complaint - but I (and others) really do not think that you ever attended our course. If you did, tell us your name or respond to my email that I sent you and we can talk. Since you have done neither of these things, I can only assume that you are just some random person causing trouble.
Do you think that we expect every single person to fall in love with the course - no we don't. If you have a valid argument, we are more than happy to listen to it.
It has nothing to do at all with Freedom Of Speech - Its all about being honest. Can you see where I am coming from with this? To us, you are just some random person who suddenly started trashing us (and other schools online) So, what gives? Did you really attend our course? If yes, what is your name? Also, i never once told you to "shut your mouth" I only asked for your name - which you have yet to email. So if this was all some joke, it was really funny, but it upset a lot of our staff who really put a lot of effort into the course. This is my final post too
Cheers,
Chris W |

So, anyone have any experience with Next Level? I'm straddling the fence between Next Level and TEFL Worldwide. |

my advice would be to do a course that gives you an internationally recognized certificate like CELTA. I don't think either of those courses will get you that. |

I fail to see what certification CELTA has in Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America that the others don't have. From looking at job postings, many don't require any certifcation at all, and those that do just require TEFL certification, which the above give. Aside from most schools in Asia requiring a BA, which I have, I haven't seen any job listing require a certain TEFL certificate over another. |

You have a BA in English or Education? I have a BA as well but in neither of those. Simply having a BA will not suffice I'd imagine.
CELTA is recognised by TEFL employers worldwide, including: language schools such as International House, ELSI and EF; many overseas public schools, colleges and other employers; many ministries of education, and government bodies such as The British Council; and by TESOL, IATEFL and other major professional organizations.
That's all I know. There are a million TEFL certificates and most or none will suffice just fine I've heard. However, for the same money I would be inclined to take a CELTA or Trinity CERT course over any run of the mill one. Think of it this way, if they are better or more widely known and they cost the same as any random TEFL course, why not do it? |

Perhaps the guy had a sticky 'u' key on his keyboard? Perhaps he was tired, perhaps he wrote in a hurry. Its a cheap shot to try to belittle people by highlighting spelling errors within informal communication.
But not as cheap as using this forum for attacking TEFL schools without providing clear evidence to support such. |

I have a BA in Corporate Communication. I realize one needs a TEFL certificate for the best paying jobs. My point is that I've seen absolutely nothing that states that only the CELTA is accepted worldwide, aside from their own self-advertising. If you could provide some links to schools or employers who only accept the CELTA certificate I'd be grateful. |

Why on earth should I furnish you with some kind of CELTA substantiation? You're the one preparing to spend money...if I were you I'd do a little research. One point that may sum it up is that CELTA is standardized so no matter where you take it you get the same course. And has been around the longest so it has a reputation. There ya go. |

You don't have to furnish me with anything. I've done my research. There is nothing to substantiate your claims, though, so I asked if you'd like to back them up with any evidence. Apparently, you're incapable of doing so... |

Jesus you are an impatient one aren't you. Who do you take me for, the international defender of CELTA? Do you think I've taken an TEFL course or something? If you're so sure of yourself, go ahead and take the Next Level course and stop trying so hard to convince yourself otherwise. |

Next level has the teaching practice, so you'll do fine there.
H2H, if you worked my schedule, you'd make a lot of mistakes too. Give me a break
