A widespread misconception, mostly based on old articles found on the Internet, is that in Eastern European countries such as the Czech Republic or Hungary, you don't need a TEFL, CELTA certificate to teach English, and there's an abundance of jobs available anytime, anywhere. While that may have been the case seven years ago, currently people who hold no degree whatsoever and/or no certification of Teaching English as a Foreign / Second Language will have a hard time finding job placement, let alone one that pays well. And if you're trying to make a decent living, you might need a proper income, while Eastern Europe is still a lot less expensive ( especially housing, accommodation and food... ie. daily expenses ) it's still hard to get by on the small allowance a regional private school would offer for untrained Native English Teachers. There are a few good guides on teaching English in the region, one being TEFL WorldWide, Prague and also, Teaching English: Budapest TEFL which will provide up to date information on job openings, living and travel tips for TEFL candidates and aspiring teachers. Be sure to read up on the topic properly before deciding your destination as both Prague and Budapest have their special characteristics and atmosphere... which may overlap in some areas, but neither is for everyone. Good luck with your jub hunting!

Nice keyword hyperlinking placement. Trying to up the page ranking on Google I see:) If you need a TEFL just buy one online. Plenty of friends here have done it, and no one has ever asked to even see it:)

nice jub if you can get it... and you CAN get it if you try...

This is a commercial solicitation for a TEFL school. And if the person who wrote it is a teacher, it's got to be CHEAP.

This should be dumped.

I agree.
It should be dumped.
Anyway, if you look at TEFL WORLDWIDE's website they make out they right in center or city.
Actualy they r on the outskirts in an industrial area and they take on as many students as they can; basically they are a TEFL mill.
I recommend ITTP:

Also, the language house seem to have a good repuation too (but I've heard ITTP have the most varied teaching practice sessions).
Don't do your TEFL with TEFLWORLDWIDE in Prague 40 (or wherever it is they claim they have their classroom).
Do it in Prague 1 and enjoy Prague.

well,use your loaf.
Tefl worldwide pay for advertising and this is as far as i can see a form of paid advertising.
my advice for anyone looking to get their tefl certification is to take forums with a pinch of salt.
i don't know anything about tefl worldwide but i was curious and took a look at their address and then typed it into http://www.mapy.cz and it true they not in the centre.i don't know if there are any benefits taking your tefl out of the centre but i certainly wouldn't want to.
prague has its historically beautiful areas but tefl worldwide is not located in this area.
anyway, what the hell do i care-i took mine 5 years ago with prague schools.
it was alright. got my certification. was out in prague 6 which was a bummer and the director is an ass but otherwise it got me my generic tefl and i started teaching after the course.this was what i paid for and i got what i paid for.
i don't think tefl worldwide is the only one to blame here.
praguetv should perhaps rethink their paid advertising policies.
off for a beer and wondering why the hell i just wasted 10 minutes of my life writing on a forum like this

I'd like to add my two cents on this. First of all, Teflworldwide and The Language House are competitors. I don't work them and they don't work with us. I just feel that a bunch of people that come online from no real source (not past students, random people?) seems strange and odd. Yeah they are a bit out of the city, but their place is nice. They also have a great staff and pretty much everyone i've met has said good stuff about them.
Location is important, but that's only 1 out of two dozen factors that make a good course. Again, I started and run another course. We don't work with each other, but I get a bit upset when random people starting throwing dirt at any school. If you want to make a comment, please leave your email or something.
Here's mine

My students say a great deal of positives about our course. I've never really heard them care about where the location was (Prague 2 behind the national museum)

I must say that I agree here with Chris (btw, hi Chris - good to 'see' you again).
ITTP is also a competitor of Tefl Worldwide Prague - the Language House also - and I do also find it upsetting when 'random' people begin throwing dirt at a particular school.
I also find it a little frustrating sometimes when what may seem like an innocent post is in fact probably written to stir up trouble between TEFL/TESOL schools (referring particularly here to JoshP's post - thank you for the plug though anyway).
There is a lot of competition among TEFL/TESOL schools in Prague and it is a shame that some school(s) seems to try and slander the good name of their competitors through forum posts.
Perhaps I am wrong and the posters are just people roaming the TEFL forum pages and expressing their opinion - if so then I apologize in advance.
I think that with any TEFL/TESOL program there are pros and cons and I , once again, agree with Chris that Tefl worldwide Prague have a strong program.
So do The Language House.
ITTP also :-)
In addition, I lastly want to add that both Praguetv.cz and Expats.cz are excellent resources for info and that the people who run both websites are dedicated individuals with vision.
It is a shame that every once in a while the tone of debate on both websites is lowered due to postings made in bad taste.
Both websites should be respected for the aim with which they target; to provide useful info for expats living, or thinking of coming to live, in Prague.
