Crossing border with Green Card (green book) of permanent resident

I was planning on going to Slovakia next week to go hiking but my passport is stuck at the Russian embassy waiting on a visa (it'll take a week I guess). I was wondering if anyone knows if I can cross the broder between the CR and Slovakia and back with just my CR green permanent resident's book?

Any suggestions are welcome,

Not sure - you can but try. I think that they might be OK (with Schengen etc) although CZ and SK aren't Schengen countries.

no, you can't, in fact, you are technically not suppose to take that out of the country. Ironic as it may sound, since in some cases you need it to get back if you don't have a visa in your passport, i have had to show it in the US to come back, yet, i have had cz police tell me i can't take it out of the country, when it was seen with my normal pass, returning from DE or SK...

Thanks guys, as it turns out I will be stuck within the borders until the Russian embassy gives the passport back. So I guess it will be a holiday in ...Liberec!
