Don t buy any on the street, you ll certainly be ripped off. generally 1 gram is 250kc, it s high quality, and most pubs outside of the center allow you to smoke inside. Currently it is illegal, but then again so is prostitution, and there are brothels everywhere. I won t publicize on this website where to buy, but if you go to any hip hop or reggae shows it shouldn t be hard to maybe find some, or ask where it is available. |

Be careful at the borders with your ganja, this is not a fairy land where you can spark up anywhere. If you want to smoke go to Zizkov, if you are feeling uneasy about lighting up indoors, just walk outside. It is ok to ask the barman if you can smoke, and I think they'd appreciate you asking them while you buy your beer, or whatever. |

remember boys and girls that it still is technically illegal.
heres a quote from an article I found online about what is actually on the books here in the czech republic. There seems to be a push to seperate marijuana from other harder drugs, however this has not yet taken place. the following quote is in regard to a proposal to further seperate different drugs.
"The proposal would amend the country's 1999 drug law so that users and small growers could face only a fine for marijuana possession. Under the existing statute, possession of 10 marijuana cigarettes could land a person in prison for up to two years"
Be careful, and don't blow smoke in the cops faces and you should be ok. Out of sight, out of mind. |

The law is quite clear!
Under the current law on drugs, people can possess "not more than a small amount" of marijuana, though what constitutes a "small amount" is not specified. Read more here http://eldd.emcdda.eu.int/databases/eldd_legal_text.cfm?id=1 722&lang=en&T=2
The effect of the law however is that smoking a joint outside a pub is unlikely to cause offence and it is generally understood (though not specified in law) that less than 4g of grass will be classed as a small amount.
Buying on the street is likely to lighten your wallet, not your head, as there are a lot of people selling oregano to tourists. The normal Prague price for Czechs is 700Kc/750Kc for a 3.5 - 4g bag of high quality buds. The price for expats is 1,000Kc!
Hash is rarer here than in the UK, but can be obtained from reputable dealers (only). If anybody tries to sell you anything which does not look like buds on a stalk, then it probably isn't grass or is just clippings not worth smoking ;-)
Expats who smoke, know one or two people they trust to sell them their gear. Ask them to introduce you! |

(1) A person who keeps, without authorization, a narcotic or psychotropic substance or a poison in a quantity greater than small shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of up to two years or by a pecuniary penalty.
Im not trying to be cute here, but if this is true, wouldn't it also be allowed to carry a small amount of heroin or pico as well, since they are both narcotics?

A marijuana smoker rolls a cigarette at Letna park, an act that could be punished with time in prison.
Sitting on an open patch of grass in Letna park, the 21-year-old salesman casually rolled a marijuana cigarette.
He lit it and took three deep drags before passing it to a friend.
"It doesn't turn you into a drug addict," said the smoker, who gave his name only as Josef. "Pot is the same as beer."
Josef's ritual is a common sight in a country where an estimated 400,000 marijuana users are largely ignored by the authorities and tolerated by most everyone.
Now Deputy Prime Minister Petr Mares wants to alter the criminal code and liberalize the country's marijuana laws to further reflect that relaxed attitude.
Mares, a Freedom Union deputy in charge of anti-drug policy, wants to distinguish between the use of marijuana and harder drugs, such as cocaine and heroin.
He was inspired by the findings of a recent two-year, government-funded study that concluded marijuana use is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco.
The proposal would amend the country's 1999 drug law so that users and small growers could face only a fine for marijuana possession. Under the existing statute, possession of 10 marijuana cigarettes could land a person in prison for up to two years.
The proposal, which is part of a larger Justice Ministry bill to amend the penal code, is also aimed at cleaning up ambiguous language in the law that gives police discretion in regards as to what constitutes a large amount of the drug. maybe this is just another beauracratic mess. But I ve still never seen anything in print about this "small amount" law, it sure gets talked about a lot, but it would be good to see the actual source. |

so I guess it does apply to other drugs too, unless there are other laws about possession of those.
The Deputy PM Mares thing was last year. I don't know what happened to his proposal but I guess it didn't make the statute books. See here for more:

just wanna say that the skunk in prague is in the same leag as the high grade u can get in london, uk.. people tells me that much of the green in prague may be importet from the DAM! if this is the case im not complaining... first place i bought weed in prague was a rip of and we got like 3grams for 1200Ckz, a couple of days later i went to a bar where the bartender hooked me up with this dealer that got the same high grade as the first guy for 250Ckz/gram. gennerally i finde the atmospher kind of relaxed in prague towards cannabis!.. lets hope prague goes amsterdam within a couple of years! they already got the same quality puff! |

Do you perchance think uppers do the same thing? How on earth would you classify LSD or good old reefer grass? I don't know anyone whos ever been busted here. honestly I smoke in bars almost every day. the cops have come in while im smoking a joint, i put it out, they asked for my id, i showed it to them, they went away. but of course like most things in prague no one is actually sure what the law is, but it seems irrelevant. |

The cops are tolerant of it unless they don't like the looks of you. Everyone is generally cool with the weed. Most bars will ask you to go out side if its packed on the weekend in bigger bar smoke away. U Sudu on Vodickova is one of the great bars in town and is totally herb friendly. |

If you are really interested in finding some and can't be talked out of it go check out a concert and look for a hippie. Basically just follow your nose and you are bound to find someone, just like anywhere else. Remember there is a fine attached if the man decides to fine you so be prepared for that. If you're traveling around a place for the sole purpose of finding some smoke you may want to consider looking into a place like <a href="http://www.vistabay.com/">Vista Bay</a> but thats just my opinion. |
