Can anyone please help.We bought tickets at Mustek and were directed to platform A.At the bottom of the escalator we were accosted by two officials who despite our pleas of ignorance insisted that we pay a 1400 K fine. One of them even took my Passport and refused to return it. Requests for Police assistance were ignored and because we were heading to the Airport we had to pay this fine. This has left a bitter 'taste in the mouth' and it will take something exceptional for us to return. These people by showing no common sense are a bad reflection on the People of PRAGUE and we shall continue writing to all available avenues until our money is returned from these legalised bandits. Yours fathfully P DOWNEY UK.

Not sure if you validated the ticket or not by your comment. If you didn't then its you fault. You would have to pay 700kc each. These aren't "legalised bandits" rather they are officials to stop fare jumpers. You, in this case, were a fare jumper. It was an honest mistake I am sure but a costly one at that. Next time validate your ticket.

elbuc is right - the "revisors" who check tickets can be pretty rude and very inflexible, but without a stamped ticket you are travelling illegally. The fines are documented on the public transport site, see the first bullet of the "In the PIT system ..." section : http://www.dpp.cz/en/transit-inspection/

So, if someone goes to your town (and why would anyone want to go to there?) and doesn't follow the procedure for validating tickets on the public transit system there, they shouldn't pay the fine?

If you go to New York City and buy the MetroCard, would you feel ok just jumping over the turnstile anyway, just because you "bought tickets"?

Or Paris? Or Rome? Or Portland, Oregon?

It's funny, but millions of tourists manage to ride the Transit system in Prague without getting fined. It's the ones who screw-up that complain about getting "robbed".

Paul's right on the money. Sounds more like the original posters were the robbers.
