10 Years of Prague TV
A look back at Prague TV's first decade, as we celebrate our 10th birthday
Born in a Žižkov apartment in April 2001, the Prague TV "baby" is now a healthy and robust 10-year-old, with 15,000 registered users, 180,000 unique visitors per month and two sister web publications.
Here's how we got where we are today:
2001
Todd Benson, Jeff Smith and Peter Lowe launch Prague TV in Jeff's Žižkov apartment, as a service to English-speaking expatriates and tourists in Prague.
2002
Catastrophic floods hit Prague. Prague TV's on-the-spot coverage, including numerous photo galleries, leads to a dramatic increase in web traffic and considerable international media attention.
The same year sees Prague TV stage the first Monster Ball, an annual party that remains the Czech Republic's biggest and best Halloween celebration, and enter into a content partnership with the Prague Pill, an alternative English-language weekly newspaper.
2003
Prague TV hits the airwaves, in partnership with Expresradio and the inimitable Robert "Dr. Bob" Polo! Prague TV's Around Town Report would be an integral part of the Expres Evenings in English show and, from 2007, the Expres Drive with Dr. Bob morning show until 2009.
2003-2008
As the site develops, the Prague TV staff grows. The new additions include current content editor Sam Beckwith, plus designer/developer/writer Scott Van Wagenen and marketing manager Eva Hádrová who would later marry!
Over the same period, the site undergoes three redesigns to accommodate a growing range of new content and features.
2005
Prague TV enters into a content partnership with Respekt, helping bring English-language translations of the award-winning weekly news magazine's articles to an international audience -- a relationship that continues to this day.
2008
Fulfilling a long-term ambition, Prague TV launches its video unit, creating TV and web commercials plus short features on life in Prague.
In the same year, our site undergoes its most recent redesign, codenamed Luna, and Patricie Ullrichová joins the team as account manager.
2009
The Prague Daily Monitor, a daily online newspaper offering Czech news in English, joins the Prague TV family, along with editors Kateřina Heilmann and Martina Čermáková.
2010
Prague TV gets a hip new sister when parent company Real Time Productions launches Lime&Tonic Prague. Lucie Janoušková joins the team to manage this fresh take on the online city guide.
2011
Zuzana Dziváková becomes the latest addition to the Prague TV/Real Time Productions team, working as Lime&Tonic Prague team assistant.
A big thank you to all Prague TV and Real Time Productions employees, past and present: Ghazal Ansary, Sam Beckwith, Dean Bedford, Lucie Benson (formerly Lucie Šírková), Kate Brack, Andrea Ceran, Martina Čermáková, Jenelle Davis, Zuzana Dzíváková, Simona Koutská, Eva Hádrová, Petra Hainzová (formerly Petra Karvinen), Kateřina Heilmann, Lucie Janoušková, Micah Jayne, Chris Kottom, Peter Lowe, Henrik Nordstrom, Juan Cruz Pacin, Steve Smith, Alexander "Sasha" Tapavički, Patricie Ullrichová, Eva Van Wagenen (formerly Eva Hádrová), Scott Van Wagenen and anyone we might have forgotten! Further, a big "Hvala" to our friends Dean Bedford, Mladen Dukić, and Vlad Dukić and the rest of team at PLANet Systems Group.
