Shania Twain to play O2 Arena

The country pop star has come out of retirement with a new album

Canadian country pop star Shania Twain will perform in Prague for the first time at O2 Arena on Oct. 6, 2018, as part of her Now Tour. Tickets are already on sale.

The announced shows are the first since the Rock This Country Tour in 2015. The Now Tour kicks off May 3 in Tacoma, Washington, and will go through the US and Canada before going to the UK and Ireland for eight shows and then into continental Europe, where Prague is the second stop after Munich. The tour ends in Stockholm.

Her fifth studio album Now was released Sept. 29, 2017. It is her first new studio album since Up! was released in 2002. The new album debuted at the top of the charts in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada.

Three singles have been released from the album so far: “Life's About to Get Good,” “Swingin' with My Eyes Closed” and “Who's Gonna Be Your Girl.”

“Shania is a five-time Grammy Award-winner and the reigning queen of country pop. With more than 90 million albums sold worldwide and U.S. sales topping 34.5 million, Shania remains the top-selling female country artist of all time,” a press release announcing the tour states.

“Shania’s albums include her platinum-selling 1993 debut, Shania Twain; the Grammy Award-winning, double diamond-selling 1995 release, The Woman in Me; Come On Over, the best-selling studio album in Soundscan history by a female artist in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time with over 40 million units sold worldwide; and Up!, Shania’s third consecutive diamond-selling album release,” the press release adds.

The long gap between Up! and Now was due in part to medical reasons. In 2004, Twain retired from performing and went to her home in Switzerland. She later cited a weakening singing voice as the reason. When speaking voice also became affected, she consulted specialists in Nashville. They discovered lesions on her vocal cords, which she attributed to Lyme disease.

In 2012, Twain returned to the concert stage in Las Vegas. Then in 2015, she went on what she called a farewell tour. The Rock This Country Tour went through the US and Canada.

As is often the case, the farewell was premature as she is back with new material and a new tour.

Aside from music, the star also created the Shania Kids Can Charity Foundation, a program in primary schools that assists students who fall into the gap between a dysfunctional home life and qualifying for a social service intervention. She did this because of her own experiences as a child.
