He announced the 20-date tour on Instagram. “Excited to announce I’m headed back overseas in May for the European leg of
G-Eazy is the stage name of Gerald Earl Gillum from Oakland, California. He was named Favorite Hip-Hop Artist in the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2017.
His third and most-recent major label studio album, The Beautiful & Damned, was released on Dec. 15, 2017. It followed after 2014’s These Things Happen and 2015’s When It’s Dark Out. He also released two independent albums, The Epidemic LP in 2009 and Must Be Nice in 2012.
He began to rise to fame began in 2010 when he opened for Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg, He also had early success with videos on YouTube.
The Beautiful & Damned debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 and number one on the US Rap charts.
Dean Van Nguyen in the Irish Times called the new album “a sprawling, operatic epic” and “a grandiose hip-hop chronicle you can’t turn away from.”
James Shotwell in Substream Magazine compared it to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel of the same name. “Scott’s 1922 work about greed and vice pairs well with G-Eazy’s drunken outlook on life from center stage. The ruinous cost of excess is strewn throughout the record in plain terms and poetic reference,” he said.
The magazine Idolator also noted the F. Scott Fitzgerald connection, and went on to praise the album’s honesty. “The Beautiful & Damned offers an unflinching glimpse into the life and times of the promising hitmaker. … It presents a fully fledged glimpse at the artist as he reaches an essential moment in his life and career,” the site’s Mike Nied said.
HipHopDX instead made reference to Dan Brown novels. “The entire album … has G getting his Robert Langdon through a mental tug-of-war between the angelic rap star living lavishly and the devilish rap star on the destructive path,” the online magazine’s Scott Glaysher said.
Three singles have been released so far from the new album: “No Limit,” “Him & I” and “Sober.”
His other big label studio albums also were hits. These Things Happen hit number three on the US Billboard 200; When It's Dark Out hit number five on the same chart. Both were number one on the US Rap charts.
