Sting and Shaggy to play in Prague

The English and Jamaican stars are supporting their joint album 44/876

Sting and Shaggy will be in Prague on Nov. 16 at Forum Karlín as part of the 44/876 tour. Live Nation club members can get tickets Aug. 30 from 10 am to 10 pm. General sales start Aug. 31 at 10 am.

English musician Sting and Jamaican musician Shaggy released a joint album in April. The title 44/876 refers to the international dialing codes for the UK and Jamaica. The album proved popular, debuting at the top of the UK charts. It was Sting's first top 10-album since Sacred Love in 2003 and Shaggy's first since Hot Shot in 2001.

The two stars will perform both separately and together, playing selections from 44/876 as well as melding their bands to explore each other’s most celebrated hits such as “Every Breath You Take,” “Englishman in New York,” “Message in a Bottle,” “It Wasn’t Me,” “Hey Sexy Lady” and “Angel.”

Prague will be just one of three cities on this brief European tour; the others are Łódź and Gdańsk in Poland, where the album was certified gold.

The album received generally good reviews. UK newspaper The Telegraph gave it four out of five stars. “I’m tempted to say it is surprisingly good – yet why should we be surprised? They are both gifted, charismatic veteran musicians with very distinctive skills,” The Telegraph’s critic Neil McCormick wrote. He added that the album is “a treat for grown-up fans of either artist.”

The pair initially joined creative forces to record the new song “Don't Make Me Wait” as a tribute to the Caribbean sounds that influenced them both. Eventually, they ended up recording an entire album full of uplifting music.

Sting wrote some of his hits such as “Every Breath You Take” while he was in the Caribbean, and the reggae influence can be heard throughout his career.

The touring band is a mix of people who have worked with both of them. It includes Sting’s players Dominic Miller (guitar), Josh Freese (drums) and Rufus Miller (guitar) plus Shaggy’s musicians Melissa Musique (backing vocals), Gene Noble (backing vocals) and Kevon Webster (keyboards).
