Kiss, ZZ Top coming to Prague’s Eden Aréna

It looks like this is the goodbye kiss from Kiss, as they have announced retirement

American rock bands Kiss and ZZ Top will be on the same bill at Prague’s Eden Aréna on June 19, 2019. Other bands will be announced later for the second edition of an event called Prague Rocks.

Tickets go on sale to Live Nation club members on Nov. 7 at 10 am and to the general public, Nov. 9 at 9 am.

Kiss will be on their somewhat ominously titled End of the Road tour. The veteran rock band’s new tour is billed as a farewell and is planned to last three years. “All that we have built and all that we have conquered over the past four decades could never have happened without the millions of people worldwide who've filled clubs, arenas and stadiums over those years,” Kiss said in a statement accompanying the first announced dates.

“This will be the ultimate celebration for those who've seen us and the last chance for those who haven't. Kiss Army, we're saying goodbye on our final tour with our biggest show yet and we'll go out the same way we came in. ... Unapologetic and unstoppable,” the band added.

Fans may remember there was a Farewell Tour in 2000–01, but that one actually served to revitalize the fan base and encouraged the band to continue to record new material.

But the two original founding members, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, are 66 and 69 years old respectively. The shows involve levitating on wires, pyrotechnic effects, tricks and a lot of physical exertion, not to mention the uncomfortable stage makeup they wear each night.

On the last few tours the two leads seemed to be showing a little bit of wear, and apparently, they have decided to go out on top, rather than tone the shows down.

The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and release 20 studio albums, not counting the four solo album set in 1978.

They are still best-known for their string of 1970s and ’80s hits including “Rock and Roll All Nite,” “Shout It Out Loud,” “I Was Made for Lovin' You,” “Heaven’s on Fire” and “Crazy Crazy Nights.”

They were last in Prague on their 40th-anniversary tour in 2015, and have been in Prague six times before that, going back to 1996.

They were also in Brno in 2017 at part of the Kissworld tour.

The other big act on the program is ZZ Top, known for its Texas-style rock and long beards on two of its three members. Bassist Dusty Hill and guitarist Billy Gibbons both sing and have the beards. Drummer Frank Beard ironically does not. The band’s hits include “Gimme All Your Lovin,” “Cheap Sunglasses,” “La Grange” and “Legs.” They have released 15 albums since 1971.

The band has been in Prague three times, more recently in 2009.
