Big concerts coming to Prague in 2019

There is everything from heavy metal to classical stars

Prague has an unusually large selection of concerts coming in 2019. The year, as has been a tradition, starts off with composer Ennio Morricone, who despite having announced retirement just can’t stop. He is known for his film scores to spaghetti Westerns in particular.

The first big rock show is Slash, the guitarist from Guns N' Roses, but this time with Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators. Throughout the year, there will be Alice in Chains, Tool, Def Leppard and Whitesnake, Slipknot, Rammstein and Metallica.

People who like their rock a bit less hard can look forward to Dave Matthews Band, Bryan Ferry and Mark Knopfler.

Folk and rock legend Bob Dylan will be playing for three days in a row at Lucerna’s Velký sál, a change from the stadium and arena shows he usually does.

Several musicians are hinting that this is their last tour. Elton John is on an extensive tour called Farewell Yellow Brick Road, which he says will be his last as he wants to spend time with his family. He will still perform from time to time, but not as extensively.

Fans of the iconic band Kiss should check out their show, as they are about to hang up their makeup. The tour is billed as the End of the Road. They have announced retirement before, but seem serious now. Heavy metal band Slayer is also on a Final World Tour.

But retirement isn’t always permanent. Phil Collins surprisingly is back on the road with his Still Not Dead Yet Live tour.

And while he hasn’t announced retirement, blues legend John Mayall is 85 years old.
Another blast from the past is funk band Kool &The Gang, who had a string of dance hits in the 1970s and ’80s.

Appealing to a bit younger audiences, there will be shows by ZAZ, Bastille, Jessie J, Maroon 5 and the Backstreet Boys.

Towards the end of the year pop star Ariana Grande is coming to Prague for the first time.

The large outdoor venue Letiště Letňany will see shows by Muse, Ed Sheeran, and Metallica.

The full lineup for the Metronome festival in Výstaviště Praha has not been announced, but Kraftwerk is among the headliners.
